I want to date a firefighter or cop

Anonymous
OP, I was there after my divorce. I met some of these guys online and ended up being so turned off. They looked good from afar and I was attracted, then met them and couldn't get past certain things. Of course there are exceptions, but the guys I encountered weren't compatible even for a romp in the hay. Overconfident, couldn't carry on a conversation, seemed controlling, overconservative, etc.

Engineers have low EQ and hockey players are alcoholics.

I must have gotten the only sensitive engineer out there. He definitely like to drink, but he's no alcoholic. Guess I got lucky.

Thanks, I appreciate your thoughts! I think this comes from feeling very vulnerable and wanting a strong man to protect me and make it all right. It sounds naïve, I know ...

My other half is a policeman. The stereotypes in this thread are laughable, because you could probably find similar statistics about other professions, but everyone loves to pick on cops, especially on this board.

Like ANY profession, there are jerks. Absolutely true. I know plenty of doctors, lawyers, financiers, etc., who are alcoholics or who cheat or hit their wives. Really I socioeconomic class or profession is immune.

I also know a ton of cops who do their job with integrity and are always willing to go the extra mile to help someone (mine included!). I know a ton of cops who have never had a use of force complaint filed against them. I know a ton who are wonderful husbands and fathers. And I work in a profession that intertwines with the police so I am around hundreds of cops and see them in their off hours, their coming and going, and overhear their conversations.

I love my policeman. He's strong and sexy and also caring and funny. You can find these qualities in a lot of professions, though, just like you can find bad men, too.

And yes--it's definitely a life you have to be prepared for. He frequently has to stay late because he got a call as his shift was ending. His shifts have been very odd hours over the years. He can't make holidays sometimes and or vacations are always planned around his schedule. But it's okay, I've never had a problem with it. Some women would be very resentful.

Married a Marine. Big, strong, we have more weapons in the house than most people. Fixes cars, plays sports, watches sports.

Has tea parties with his daughter, sings along to musicals, knows the difference between Bach and Beethoven, appreciates art, can cook.

People can be more than one layer of stereotypes.

Why would you want to marry an under-educated blue collar man?

These professions are full of average people - not many high iq types that I personally find more appealing. They have a base attractiveness about them that is great for the short term but I wouldn't consider them for the long term.

High IQ women are absolutely dreadful. They are rarely attractive, and to make matters worse, they can't carry on a conversation. They are constantly talking about stupid college stuff, as they believe that is THE measure of success. And they are constantly blabbing about work issues because they have no idea how to get along with other people. No thanks!

Because they are kind.

Considering the law of deminishing returns for IQ I would think most are in the sweet spot for IQ.

My husband is a firefighter. Every guy in his station voted for Trump.
