The Post does nothing out of decency. |
Who has said it was not? It will be classified as hate crime or not when they bring charges. And it can always be added to the charges or dropped. Then the jury will decide if it was a hate crime. |

Fairfax County Police have tweeted that they are NOT investigating this case as a hate crime.

I'm so sick of seeing the "why were they out at that hour of the night/morning?" posts (here and on social media).
Being out after dark is NOT a crime. Not even if you are under 18. Not even if you are under 18 AND have a vagina! Attacking someone IS a crime. Killing someone IS a crime. Focus on the actual crimes committed! I can't believe it's 2017 and we're still victim shaming. Or that people don't understand/realize when they say things like, "why was she out so late" it IS victim shaming. "I would never let my daughter walk at that time of night." That's great for you, but that still doesn't make what she, her friends, or their parents did wrong. Such a tragedy. |
You're basically trying to make the killer look sympathetic. Sorry, I don't care what was said, anyone who gets out of their car swinging a metal baseball bat at people deserves no sympathy. Maybe have some sympathy for the family and stop speculating and justifying the death of their child. |
Except that the time from when this "dispute" happened and the time the suspect was arrested, was about 12 hours - there was no "next day." Killers don't feel guilty. They may however, just feel sorry that they were caught. |
Umm. Sometimes teens are out that late because there is not an adult presence and they are getting into trouble and doing things that they know are wrong. That is NOT the case in this particular situation - the group of teens had a reason to be out in the early morning hours. However, they apparently did meet up with a bad guy while they were out. This could have happened at any time of the day but the odds of something like this happening are probably higher in the early morning hours when there are much fewer witnesses around. |
+1 I also feel like with these being hijab-wearing Muslim teens, people would assume that their parents have a strong leash on their kids, just because of their preconceived notions - so one would be damned if they do, damned if they don't. It would either be "why weren't parents with these kids?" or "Why don't Muslim parents let their kids have some freedom?" No one ever seems to ask what killers/rapists/etc are doing out late at night - when they are the ones committing wrongdoing. |
Where on earth are you getting this information? Do you have some source to back this claim up? By all accounts, it was more of a "run-in" than any kind of meeting up. |
That's true. It was probably just filling up their server or something and costing them money. |
Whatever their motivation, the Post is sensitive about stories and comments. I'm not surprised that there are no comments for this story. |
DP. PP said they met a bad guy. That is purely factual. You're reading too much into the post. |
Sadly, these days most of the people out in the very late night are not up to anything good. Even in Bethesda and Potomac there are drugs changing hands and robberies going on. In DC there are people out to rob you but also they are just out late at night to hurt you - groups of people even. Just for fun. Even as a group of teens it would be better not to be out late at night. How awful I'm very sad for the family and the community. |
The Post allows disgusting and hateful comments night and day for most articles - they should either turn them off for all articles or moderate. Sure it's time consuming but it's one reason our society is going down the tubes. |
eh, I wasn't saying that they met WITH this guy intentionally. It was a run in. The kids were walking to/from a fast food restaurant and encountered a nightmare. The kids might not have been doing anything wrong but the fact is that there are people out at that time of night who are up to no good. They do and get away with bad things because there are not a lot of witnesses around. Why was that particular guy out? We don't know. Maybe he had a good reason for being out, maybe he didn't. |
