I find this thread kind blowing. Seventh and eighth grade kids drunk at a dance? Is this serious or is it a troll making stuff up?
That is a serious, serious problem. Both the short term and long term effects of alcohol at that age can be catastrophic. This is deeply troubling. |
| I remember some boys drinking when I was in 7th grade in the 80s-they had older brothers who were a bad influence. Sad thing is they have had problems all of their life. My dd is going to this dance and we already talked about potential issues. Hoping they have no punch bowls but if they do, my child will be skipping. They should just have water bottles handed out from park police who I am told are chaperones this year. It is a dance that raises money for a terrific cause so let’s not forget the charity element. Also remember that most kids are good and do not want any problems. |

I am just wondering if the sponsors of this event understand the history of Glen Echo and the optics of calling this the "White Party"?????
Seems incredibly tone deaf. |
| The title of this party alone....I'm shocked it has survived |
| Oh get over yourself. No one thinks you're smart because you found a reason to be offended. |
It’s clothing. Seriously, nothing more than that. |
|
I guess the Brett Kavanaugh Georgetown Prep era isn't over. It's just playing out for middle schoolers.
I like beer. |
| so now we need to ban the word white from our vocabulary? so ridiculous. people just looking for reasons to get offended. |
Wow, you had to work for that one. |
It's seriously messed up to have a White Party at Glen Echo. I live in DC and, until this morning, was unaware of this drunken charity ball for suburban 12 year olds. But seriously, how messed up are you people? |
| Our DD went last year with most of the girls in her class. Most hated it. It's a mess with kids drunk and stoned and generally behaving badly. They're not going again. Skip it. |
It’s shocking the silence on these boards about this event and the fact that seventh and eighth graders were showing up wasted. I think it’s because they are mostly suburban kids that don’t attend schools that people consider elite and that’s why they don’t care? Otherwise it’s hard to figure out why there’s a 100 page thread about one student allegedly drinking at a big three and yet no word about seventh and eighth graders showing up to a party falling down drunk. |
Not everyone is as obsessed with skin color as you seem to be. |
It is not a matter of obsession with skin color, it is understanding history and maybe some respect. It could easily be called the "Glen Echo Ball" or the "Suburban Catholic School Spring Frolic" or any one of another names, but sure, go ahead and be Squi. |
You clearly don't understand the "history". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Party |
