I see that some other people also haven't heard yet from HS magnets. So I shouldn't worry that we haven't received anything yet? Should we expect them tomorrow? I saw in the other thread that people were debunking the idea that acceptances go out first, but it still makes me nervous to have gotten nothing, LOL.

Poolesville letter had my son's percentage rating at the bottom or of the letter. Example: math- 60% reading: 70%, this was his ranking among test takers, but not his results. |
Last year, when all letters for MS and HS programs were sent out on a Tuesday, we received 3 responses on Friday (a yes, a no, a waitlist) and 1 (yes) on Monday! |
| 11:54 here--thank you PP! |
| RM IB - DD not accepted and test scores in the 50th percentile of test takers. Not a surprise since she said she didn't finish a large portion of the test. Her friend was around the 70th percentile and wait listed. The letter says median score for those admitted is 90th percentile. |
| Does the RMIB letter that lists median scores for accepted students break it down by English and Math? Is the median score for those admitted 90th percentile for English and 90th percentile for math, or does it just give one score? |

How many kids on average end up in Takoma and Eastern respectively from each Gifted Center?
What is the total percentage of the kids from all Gifted Centers in each Middle Gifted (Takoma, Eastern) on average? Would appreciate any info. |
Can't give any actual statistics, but anecdotally, a few years ago when DC was accepted to Takoma, only three kids from the HCG were accepted. I think it just depends on the cohort. |
|
About 60% come from an HGC.
Depends on the year and particular HGC but we were told that about one half to two thirds of the students at our cluster HGC attend a ms magnet. |
| 11:54 here--nothing in the mail today either! Sigh. |
please check my math: so.. basically like One third? of students from HGC get into the MS Magnet?: Considering that average HGC has about three classes that makes about 90 studnents.. of which two third would be 60 out of which half means 30? That is a WHOLE LOT.. considering that Takoma takes 100 students out of the neighborhood total.. out of which 60% supposed to be from HGC.. so that makes 60 students from ALL Gifted Centers from the area.. and if 30 students comes from your Highly Gifted Center alone that is one smart bunch! Unless you meant 30 students in total get into gifted MS and that would mean both Takoma and Eastern so 30 students divided by 2 schools.. 15 students takes spots in each Gifted Middle? And from one Gifted Center alone? Wowl! Which center that is may we ask? My quick independent calculations and estimates are as follows: Two schools: Eastern, Takoma, each takes give or take 100 students so total 200 out of which 60% are from Gifted centers from around the County.. so that makes 120 kids from gifted. Since 6 gifted centers feeds into each Gifted Middle so .. 120 Gfited Kids accepted.. divided by 6 centers = 20 per center. Each has 3 classes so 20 divided by 3 gives you about .. 6.5 kid per class accepted to either Takoma or Easter.. Does this sound about right ? - question to those who had their kids at Takoma or Eastern? Do those numbers check? |
|
I am just wondering, hypothetically.. if a kid applied to both school and is brilliant
enough to be accepted to both.. how do you decide which of the two to choose between Takoma and Eastern? Clearly there is a gigantic difference between those and one can't have both so how did or do you decide and why? Just curious what is your check list. |
The year my dc went from Eastern to the blair magnet there were only 4 students. It's not evenly distributed between Takoma magnet and Eastern. Now, not many apply from Eastern -- so I can't speak to the acceptance rate. |
| In my child's HGC class (not this year) 23 students applied and 16 were accepted to at least one ms magnet. |
We are talking one class not the whole HGC correct? |
