Anyone receives TPMS acceptance letter yet?
(My understanding is that if we report the median scores, that means we are not accepted by that program because acceptance letter does not provide median scores inforamtion.)

The differences between the two medians are miniscule, which should shut up anyone who thinks that in-boundary kids coming out of Takoma Park and Silver Spring are being gifted something. In reality, the extra spot for in-boundary kids is just freeing up room for OOB kids, which is a win-win for everyone.

I think we have decided that the different scores are not in boundary vs out of boundary

Not in-boundary vs OOB and not gender, so what? Maybe wait pool vs accepted? My DC is in the waitpool and letter has the slightly lower medians.

But am shocked that someone would have the audacity to assume that median scores ran along gender lines (& that boys were higher). Good grief.

such a hypocrite. The stats were done on gender and on race in MCPS and elsewhere all the time. Will you also be shocked if the median scores of boys are slightly lower than girls for Eastern acceptance?

Even if these WERE on gender (which I don't think they are) or even race (again, I don't think so), then we are talking about really small differences.

About the 2-set of median scores for TPMS, I sent an email to the Magnet Coordinator yesterday and has not yet received any reply. In the past, he has been always very prompt replying emails. So my gut feeling is that that may be a typo (one set of data is probably from last year and they simply forgot to update the info). If I receive a response, I'll update it here again.

Thanks for doing that. Also, I think your "gut feeling" provides a very plausible explanation. I can for example imagine they used a form letter from last year and started sending some letters out before noticing they had not changed the median scores from the previous letter so perhaps the earlier ones went out with the wrong scores?

Are you kidding me? Not on acceptance letters. Can you imagine if they sent letters w/ averages by race? "Your kid scored X. The average score of Asian kids was X." No way. You are totally out of context and not even talking about hypocrisy. Stop wasting everyone's time with manufactured drama & name calling.

Median scores should be visible on both acceptance and rejection letters.
