Guest room sheet etiquette poll

Me, too. And if the guests had stripped the bed and I didn't have time to do the laundry, I'd leave them in a laundry bin until I had a chance to do the laundry.

I was always taught that stripping the bed is good manners and helpful to the host. I'm with the others who don't understand why you're forced to wash the sheets right away. Don't you have a hamper or laundry basket somewhere, where you store dirty laundry before sorting and washing it? Or does everyone in your house put their dirty clothes directly in the washer after taking them off?

It's like they're saying: NOW IS THE TIME WHEN WE EAT. And then the food isn't served family style, I have to carry the plates back to the kitchen to put food on them so it's actually 5 times more work than if the table wasn't set.

HA HA HA!!!!

Why don't you just put the dirty sheets back on top of the guest bed in a pile? You were going to back into the guest room anyway to get them before the Thanksgiving guest. And next time tell your guests what you prefer so you don't get your panties in a wad over something as ridiculous as this.

This is what I do t get. Does OP live in a 10x10 apartment with only a washer and a dryer? Maybe they eat dinner on top of the washer and need that space so the sheets absolutely must be washed immediately or they'll all starve to death?

Not OP but there is no place in my entire house that can hold a pile of dirty sheets for any length of time. The hampers are for clothes and have no room for sheets and the laundry area is really a closet with no room for the sheets. I suppose I could dump them on the floor of the guest room but even I'll admit that's just stupid and I might as well wash them at that point. It's not that washing them is hard, it's just that it has to be done immediately if they've been dumped in the laundry closet. And I have asked the in-laws not to do that but it's always done regardless. I would also prefer to never have house guests but that's always done regardless as well.

Yet doing an extra load of laundry is really no big deal.

It's not that it's hard. It that I'm forced to do it immediately when I could do it next week or next month. It isn't even close to a priority but I've been forced to make it one. And I don't know why the health status of your children has any importance to this task. It doesn't make you a better person than me.

Because we spend a chunk of time at home doing all her therapy exercises. I can't just sit watching tv and folding laundry while we're doing those. That's why it's relevant.

You are NOT forced. We've done one load of laundry while a few dirty things are on top of the washer. There's no reason you can't just let it sit. You're finding problems where there are none. I think you just don't like your in-laws or whoever visited.

This! Why on earth do you feel forced to wash the sheets right away just because they aren't on the bed?

Once again, the pile of dirty sheets is placed on top of my top loading washer in a laundry closet. I can't do any other laundry until they are either washed or dumped in the middle of the floor. I have no place to put a pile of dirty sheets.

Trunk of your car?
An empty suitcase?
The oven?

Do you struggle a lot with managing household tasks OP? If you're this flummoxed by a set of sheets you must be really overwhelmed in general. Maybe you need some help.

Ps - leaving dirty sheets on a guest bed, letting the dust mites and whatever else multiply, is so gross to me. Wash them whenever but your guest was right to strip the bed!

For goodness sake. Wash the sheets, fold them and put them away. Remake the bed with only the comforter until you have guests coming. Toss the clean sheets in the dryer for 10 minutes before you make the bed the day of arrival.

This isn't brain surgery.

Yes it is! Especially when there is absolutely not one extra iota of space in your house to temporarily put your dirty sheets. Hampers are not for SHEETS, people, they are for CLOTHES. Don't you read the hamper directions?!?

I said WASH THEM. FOLD THEM. and PUT THEM AWAY.

It is just gross to leave dirty sheets anywhere for any length of time. The things that make them dirty are ALIVE. They are MULTIPLYING while you wait to stuff them in the washer which is apparently RIGHT UNDERNEATH THEM.

I know this is sarcastic but seriously I once put something in the oven because I didn't have anywhere else to put it (big Christmas pastry in a wax bag - didn't want the dog to steal it). Turned the oven on later to heat and was like "what's that smell??" Burned the bag and tasty pastry. So sad.
