Guest room sheet etiquette poll

D) Wash sheets immediately, fold and put away clean, then put clean sheets on the bed without an unnecessary re-wash. We have guests often so it’s not months or anything between washes.

It must absolutely suck to be them.

The most polite thing to do, as a guest, is to ASK what the host prefers in their own home. Asking/offering is wonderful, then listen to and follow the response. This is the only right way: ask before doing. Don’t presume.

I have never heard this and I disagree.

Do you:
A) Wash sheets right after guests leave and then put them back on the bed. Guests will then sleep in sheets that are a month or two old.
B) Leave the sheets dirty and then wash immediately prior to a guest arrival
C) Wash sheets right after guests leave and then again immediately prior to a guest arrival (wash sheets twice)

I just had a guest leave and they stripped the bed and left all the dirty sheets in my laundry room. I'm somewhat frustrated because I wasn't ready to wash sheets as I like to do them right before a new guest. But now all the pillows are on the floor and the comforter is getting wrinkled so I have to wash them.

I usually pull them off and leave them off, with the comforter, pillows, etc. on top. You don't know there aren't sheets on there. And when people visit, I put on new sheets.

Yet doing an extra load of laundry is really no big deal.

It's not that it's hard. It that I'm forced to do it immediately when I could do it next week or next month. It isn't even close to a priority but I've been forced to make it one. And I don't know why the health status of your children has any importance to this task. It doesn't make you a better person than me.

If you're not ready to wash them, just pile them back on the bed. It's ridiculous to be upset by this.

Have to agree. Y'all need to just take a breath and realize this is NOT a problem. JFC.

A. Or D: Wash sheets immediately, fold and store in linen closet. Guest mattress remains bare to air out until you’re ready to put the sheets back on.

Why do we act like we don't have more than one set of sheets. Put on the spare sheets and wash the dirty and put away. Use those Gain beads! I don't think a month before the next guest comes is too much.

Guest meant well but is not correct to strip the sheets and pile a lump of sheets and damp towels in front of my laundry room without being asked. That is part of the weekly cleaners’s job when then come on Wednesday. But now I either have to wash them or step over the pile until then. Nothing I’d get too upset over but you asked the question….

I do not want to sleep in dusty sheets that have been on a bed a month or more. This thread just reinforces how gross people are and why I prefer to stay in hotels.

This!!!! People stop teaching your kids to leave wet towels in a pile on the floor!!!! It’s not a hotel and no one is racing in there to clean.

We only have guests a couple times a year. If I washed right away, I'd have to wash again when guests arrived because the bed would get kind of dusty after no use for several months. This way, the barely used sheets are left on there and washed right before the guests arrive so they can have a fresh bed.

I can't tell you how many times I have told my in-laws to please leave the sheets on the bed. But FIL keeps stripping it and putting the whole mess on top of the washer which means I have to drop everything and wash them right away because they are blocking me from doing other laundry. And then the bed sits there unmade and gathering dust until the next visit.

OP here. Yes that's the issue. I just don't have time to do the laundry and put the sheets on the bed right now, so they've been sitting in the tiny laundry room. We will have another guest for Thanksgiving and I want the sheets to be fresh for them. Maybe I'm the only one that likes the fresh laundry smell though.

Please don't have guests if doing so results in you coming here to vent about the way your guest tried to be helpful. You aren't cut out for it. Are you on anti-anxiety medication?

Anonymous wrote:I didn't read all the posts but as a good hostess and visitor, I have been taught that when you visit someone, you strip sheets and then make up the bed with the comforter/quilt and place the pillows appropriately so it looks good. Then the hostess can have a room that looks good but wash the sheets at her convenience.

I usually put all sheets and towels in a pillowcase so it is ready to go to laundry but takes minimal space.

I also wipe down the sink/toilet and make sure everything is just as it was when I arrived.

My grandma would roll over in her grave if I neglected any of this.

Do not do this and please don’t put wet towels in a pillowcase!

Lol I gather you've never worked in a hotel.
