Guest room sheet etiquette poll

I like having sheets on the guest room bed. Sometimes if I can't sleep, I'll go try to sleep in the guest room.

Wash sheets immediately and replace with clean. If a long time passes before guests, change to fresh. Leaving used sheets on a bed is gross.

+1
It must absolutely suck to be them.

Actual OP here. All of these responses aren't from me. Not sure why someone keeps responding that they have no place to store dirty sheets etc. I only posted on the first page.

Anyways I did laundry today. Sheets actually got dirty where the guest put them (on my laundry room floor and my dog found them first). Fun times

Keeping dirty sheets on a bed is theoretically pretty knarly and washing then 2x seems like a waste of time.

I highly doubt that bedsheets get old after a few weeks or months anyway.
If they do, you can always spray them w/scented linen spray.

Enough with the sprays and perfumes. They literally make me feel like I'm suffocating.

A couple of Glade plug-ins in the guest room freshen it up right before the guests arrive.

No, your Glade plug ins smell like shit.

I will +1 this, even though I think the plug-ins poster was just trying to stir the pot.

I will never understand why people think that perfume-bombing a room is appealing to anyone. It only makes it obvious that you're trying to cover up something. I would take the covered-up scent over any room freshener or perfume any day. Even if it is cat shit.

I didn't read all the posts but as a good hostess and visitor, I have been taught that when you visit someone, you strip sheets and then make up the bed with the comforter/quilt and place the pillows appropriately so it looks good. Then the hostess can have a room that looks good but wash the sheets at her convenience.

I usually put all sheets and towels in a pillowcase so it is ready to go to laundry but takes minimal space.

I also wipe down the sink/toilet and make sure everything is just as it was when I arrived.

My grandma would roll over in her grave if I neglected any of this.

Yet doing an extra load of laundry is really no big deal.

It's not that it's hard. It that I'm forced to do it immediately when I could do it next week or next month. It isn't even close to a priority but I've been forced to make it one. And I don't know why the health status of your children has any importance to this task. It doesn't make you a better person than me.

If you're not ready to wash them, just pile them back on the bed. It's ridiculous to be upset by this.

We only have guests a couple of times a year. But I like to be prepared just in case so..

I wash a remake after a guest leaves. And if I have notice of a guest's arrival I will wash/remake again before they arrive. If I don't have notice at least there are clean sheets on the bed.

Don't you have a hamper or laundry basket somewhere, where you store dirty laundry before sorting and washing it? Or does everyone in your house put their dirty clothes directly in the washer after taking them off?

This is what I do t get. Does OP live in a 10x10 apartment with only a washer and a dryer? Maybe they eat dinner on top of the washer and need that space so the sheets absolutely must be washed immediately or they'll all starve to death?

Not OP but there is no place in my entire house that can hold a pile of dirty sheets for any length of time. The hampers are for clothes and have no room for sheets and the laundry area is really a closet with no room for the sheets. I suppose I could dump them on the floor of the guest room but even I'll admit that's just stupid and I might as well wash them at that point. It's not that washing them is hard, it's just that it has to be done immediately if they've been dumped in the laundry closet. And I have asked the in-laws not to do that but it's always done regardless. I would also prefer to never have house guests but that's always done regardless as well.

Come on. My apt is 800 sr and I don't have a washer/drier and currently have Room for two sets of dirty sheets, -a load of towels, and some clothes.

The first thing I do as a gust is to put a vinyl mattress cover and just to be sure we have a rubbersheet occasional bed wetter I would rather put my the pillow case if the need was there

Strip the sheets. Put coverlet or quilt and shams over mattress. Put clean sheets from the linen closet on the day guests arrive .

Most guests ask and I tell them what I want. If it's my SIL I'll say "sure strip the sheets, thanks!" But if it's a grandparent I'll say I'm not ready to do laundry, just leave them on, thanks!

If someone stays 1-2 nights and they are familar/clean (that sounds weird, but I don't know...) often I just leave them on and will sit on the bed to watch tv (it's also a quiet tv/office room when guests are not there). I've done this after my mom visited for a night. No rush to change them. I just get to it later in the week and store clean linens in the closet.

So glad you revived an eight year old thread to share this riveting and anal retentive post. However, this is about leaving, not arriving.
