Would you move to tel aviv?

DH just got back from Tel Aviv on Sat after being there on business for a week. He is obsessed with the city now and wants us to move there! Amazing restaurants, right on the water. It's very expensive OP- just know you'll likely live in an apartment.

Israel is safer for Jews than most of the US now. And, as DH was explaining to me, even the most socialist of Israelis (and many of them are socialists) agree on major issues of national defense. In the US, we can't even figure out who were fighting and why.

I've been to Tel Aviv several times. While it isn't my favorite city/town in Israel, I'd move there for a few years. It's a very easy city to live in.

This is very true. I'm the pp whose husband just returned. He said that one was hotter than the next. I ran for an extra mile this morning

TA is very much secular, at least the city proper. If you want a place to commiserate with others about how bothersome Orthodox Judaism is, probably no better place on the planet.

It IS hot and humid. Avoid it in the summer, if you can. And it is pricey. Your kids are young enough you do not need to deal with schools. I have heard the health system can be annoyingly bureaucratic though.

This should be #1 on your con list. Security is an issue. You can choose to believe it or not but it doesn't change facts. Israel and most of the middle east is not safe right now. I would NEVER put my young children in a situation like that.
I might do it if I were single or if it was just my husband and I but now with kids. No way.

I am more worried about having a 10 year old on her bike in my neighborhood, where jerks drive too fast. Either that or getting hit on the beltway.

Tel Aviv sounds great in theory but I would be scared to move there. It's way too close to the most dangerous places on Earth.

Mother of two here, and I'd move to Tel Aviv in a heartbeat. Full disclosure, I have lots of family in Israel (some in tel aviv) so the concept of living there isn't scary to me.

Nor should OP be concerned; I believe too many of the worriers in this thread have not actually visited Israel. I have. And I would not hesitate for a moment to raise my kids there given the opportunity to do so.

OP: somebody above mentioned cost. That is a legitimate concern because Tel Aviv is expensive. Another person mentioned driving: it's, well, a little crazy! Imagine Rome at rush hour. That is one thing I found a little shocking over there.

But not enough to dissuade me from moving for a few years.

Spending money on experiences > getting a 5000 sqft house to match your 5000 sqft spouse.
