Spending 30k on a ring?

Anonymous
I would love it. I have a 3 stone diamond ring that is a total of 3.5 carats.

Yes, there are many rings that are better and carat. What I meant is it's the best 3 carat for the 30k price range.

I'm big asking to brag. I really want to know. I'm thinking I should scale back to 2-2.50 carat. They are roughly 20-25k.

We have a nice house and a nice car. We take public transportation or usually walk everywhere.

But how did you find DCUM? More specifically, what prompts a single, straight guy with enough money to buy a $30K ring to post on a parenting forum based in DC?

Why do you care so much, and why is it any of your business? This forum isn't all about parenting. There are parenting forums, relationship forums ( we are using that one), an explicit forum, etc. There's a little thing called google, plus my sister ( who is a mom) uses this forum. Now does that answer your question, nosy?

I think it sounds amazing, OP! My DH bought me a 2 carat round solitaire and I love it, all these many years later. I think it was maybe 25k. I am a very practical and frugal person, but I happen to love diamonds and gemstones. Does your GF love sparkly jewelry?

Nosey? Nah, just genuinely curious. I've known Jeff since this started as a nanny exchange for parents. I'm always curious as to how non-parents find this place since it's so focused on issues related to parenting. That's all. You can calm down now.

DCUM turns up in a lot of Google searches since there are so many different forums and different topics covered.

Are you one of these people who always insists that people from outside DC can't be here, as if your opinions or protests about it matter?

I found dcum when I was in law school googling lawyer salaries/budgets. It's not strictly for parents or those in DC. People need to let that shit go

Anonymous wrote:Yes $30k is a lot, but a quality 3ct diamond plus band is way more than $30k.

Additionally, if this post is real, I don't understand the question.

If money is not an object as you have stated, I'd go with the cut she loves (Asscher), in 2.5-2.7 ct. 3ct won't look pretty on such a petite finger in my opinion.

+1, keep it classy and under 2.5 ct.
Put the leftover pocket change on your honeymoon.

Not PP but yes...this forum is called "DC Urban Mom," I come here to talk to other DC area moms, and I wish the rest of you would go somewhere else.

Why does it matter to you?

I don't know about the pawning aspect of this, but a too-big diamond will make it look like she's a second wife. I have a very beautiful 1.5 engagement ring that I still get comments on (very good clarity and color) and a 6-carat 10-year anniversary ring, and I wouldn't change a thing about either.

Get over yourself lady. The world and this forum does not revolve around you. I hope your offspring are raised to be less selfish than your big ass.

To add further, Jeff said this forum was started for men/dads. If you want to get all technical, you are barging in on their territory. I can't sand women like you who think the work is all about them. Grow up!

$30k seems excessive, unless you are legitimately wealthy. If so, then buy a nicest rock you can.

Quit being a pain. It's actually DC Urban moms AND DADS.
Op I would be delighted with your choice but I cannot call myself frugal, much to my VERY frugal husband's dismay, though he does indulge me.

I'm frugal and like high-quality, understated things. I'd find that size too large and vulgar. I'd much rather have something smaller, of good quality.
