A similar suit from AE just came in the mail for my 13 year old. It is going back. She looks beautiful in it, but she is 13. It is too low cut and the top was too revealing. I don't feel bad at all. Her father nearly had a stroke.

Middle aged mom here. Fwiw I see nothing wrong with this.

The bathing suit is adorable and perfect for a 13 yo. I hope she has a great time.

Super cute!!! I wore bikinis like this since I was little and my parents are rather conservative. My mom always wore a bikini and looked amazing, so I guess it was ok with her.

It's too skimpy. Boyshorts only would be the direction I would go. You don't want her to be perceived as slutty by her peers (male or female). She may not understand it yet but it's your job to put brakes on it. Yes, I've spent 3 hours in the mall with a teen as well as 12 hours in the car, 8 hours on the plane and a week in a hospital. It's called being a parent, stop being lazy.

Totally agree. I was that child back in the day and still remember how grateful I was to my mom for bending the rules and easing up on certain things so that I could fit in better. Some things really aren't a big deal in the whole scheme of life, and this is something your daughter will remember forever. Don't listen to the comment re: being a girlfriend vs. a mother. With empathy, as you've shown, you can sometimes be both.

FWIW, I think the bikini she chose is cute. It's exactly what all the other girls will be wearing.

^^^21:22 here again - forgot to mention that my first memory of my mom "bending the rules" for me was the exact situation you find yourself in right now! I was 13, and either going to a pool party or just anticipating the start of pool season, and I found an adorable bikini that I just knew she wasn't going to let me get. I tried it on for her and she said I looked adorable and bought it for me. I almost cried! It meant so much to me. And I really did look adorable!

OP, it's fine. Yes it's a little skimpy, but like you said sometimes it helps to bend the rules to let your child fit in. I was awkward myself and it didn't help that my parents had VERY modest tastes in clothing. Would have loved a mom like you!

I love my mom dearly but think that both my parents were way too strict with me when I was a kid/teen

Non-American here who sees nothing wrong with this suit for any age. Very cute. I am sure your daughter will have a great time.

Op, I totally get where you are coming from with the "bending rules to fit in" issue. I'll come at this from a different perspective...as you can see from the responses, many parents wouldn't allow their 13 year old to wear this suit so there is a good chance many will be in a suit with a bit more coverage. If this is a coed party...girls can be mean. My niece was labeled a "Slut" by a group of girls in her 8th grade class because she wore a strapless dress to a dance and happens to be a bit more developed than some of the other girls. It was pretty awful. So my concern is that shenwouldnget picked on for wearing something so much more revealing than the other girls. Less concerned about this if its a girls only party.

I think pps who suggested finding another bottom have a great idea. Also look for a cute cover up just in case

45 yo mom to a 10 year old here: That suit is adorable! If she looks good in it, it's fine. I wouldn't do a g-string, but otherwise, who cares. NO ONE EVER got raped, got pregnant or became a prostitute because they wore a cute bikini. Teach her to be confident, have some self esteem and self respect. Her clothes and hair should be hers to experiment with. Better than tats and piercings! LOL

Totally fine, OP!

I have a son but I think the bathing suit is too revealing. Next time, order a bunch of suits online and skip the hours shopping.

No way is that suit what all the other 13 yo will be wearing! Most of the girls that age at our pool are in one piece suits. It is the high school girls that are in skimpy suits like the one you bought your daughter.

Cute suit! You did the right thing
