I am sure there are more Jewish kids and more gay kids there than most schools my daughter went but lasted a year, we are not Jewish but both of her roommates were and Friday night they both went home to attend Shabbat (sp)? dinner, she loved them and was very close to them but it sucked that on a Friday night they weren't around.
She realized she really wanted a school with campus after all and transferred to U of Maryland where she is very happy.

Tulane 32% Jewish
Columbia-30% jeiwsh
GW-29% jewish
BU-28% jewish
NYU-28% jewish
Yale-27% jewish
Wesleyan-25% jewish
Tufts2-25% jewish

here's the list. And so becuase your daughter had two roomates that may have gone home for shabbat dinner, then she had no other friends? Maryland also has a huge jewish population as well.

Like how you mention the shabbat story but then so of course it was all about the campus.

I hope your DD falls in love and marries a nice Jewish boy.

You can be half Jewish and 100% bigoted, BTW.

And you don't have to be Jewish to love Levy's.

It does not however have that typical college feel or campus and feels like a school within a big city, no campus feeling whatsoever. Son did a summer program there two years ago and realized it was not for him, he ended up in school in California. But as with any school do check it out before she applies. I am giving you the benefit of the doubt in assuming you were not saying you question if it is for her because of the Jews and gays, just that that was n added observation?

What do you expect? Of course there are a lot of gays at NYU. It's near Christopher St.

Most people in the DMV who say this live in a bubble and surround themselves with like minded people. The DMV is one of the most de facto segregated communities in the United States. Northern Virginia is the only area that is truly diverse when it comes to politics, religion and ethnicity.

This is hilarious. Have you ever lived anywhere else? LA is an incredibly diverse city but everyone lives in their ethnic enclaves. Have you spent time in any southern city?

I live in DC. While this is, of course, a strongly democratic city (as are most cities) we have Republican friends who live here as well. On our block alone are Christians, Jews, Muslims and Hindus. One block. White, African Americans, Asians (northern and southern), gay and straight. One block in DC.

I went to NYU for grad school and it is fantastic for that. Undergrad? Black and white - you either fit or you don't. Not everybody is geared for a traditional campus.

In DC, many people (especially in the DC government) still view diversity in terms of the oversimplified white-black classifications. The DC government still largely ignores Hispanics, and Asians have been made to feel unwelcome.

Need to record the orginal posting as one of the worst I have ever seen posted on this board.

I guess you should just send your daughter to the school where Jews and gays feel the most uncomfortable and maybe she (really you) will be the most comfortable.

Seriously pathetic. I also like idiot who implied that Judiasm and Christianity were opposite religions. That's another really dumb statement.

So is the question whether/if you can tolerate going to school with the Jews? or is it the Gays? or both? The original post wasn't clear and subsequent postings have only operated to muddy the waters.

And they all listen to the Village People, too.

Thanks for that cutting-edge report from 1975.
