| My refrigerator died a couple weeks ago and I was desperate to find a new one quickly. I also thought it would be good to use a local company and set off to find the Rockville Bray and Scarf. When I missed it since it's tucked into the corner of a big shopping center. I Googled the address only to find a zillion bad reviews on Yelp. So I headed a mile down Rockville Pike to HH Gregg instead and the experience was fine. Got the refrigerator the next day. |
| Hi there, this is Alex with Bray & Scarff. We’re so sorry that the negative reviews turned you off to shopping with us, but hope you’ll give us another shot down the line. Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you’d like to talk. My email address is aconn@mghus.com |
| Oh my god Bray and scarff is THE . WORST. Their sales people are jerks and DO NOT CARE. Avoid them at all costs |
| If anyone else needs an appliance place, we went to Apache Appliance in Aspen Hill. We had used their repair service per the recommendation of a good friend. I walked in to the store wanting a brand new Speedqueen washer and dryer. Just the basics, nothing fancy. They were polite, efficient, answered all my questions and I had the thing delivered by two guys who were extremely professional (including the gentleman who filled out my order) and they dragged my old washer and dryer away, hooked up the gas line properly for the dryer, and it was one of the best experiences ever. I also still use them for repairs, and they have helped clue me in when I can get things repaired for free if it's still under warranty with the manufacturer. Hope this helps someone – the choices really are truly awful out there! Sears has gotten so bad I won't even buy basic goods from them anymore, much less an appliance. |
Feel free to let them know about this posting. I have always thought of them as high end. Now, after reading this thread, I would never consider them. New poster, by the way. Good luck. |

Bray and Scarff repair service was among the worst I ever received--in my life (including airlines). They didn't show up in the repair window on the first day. I called to confirm towards the end of the 5 hour appointment window when I started getting worried he wouldn't show and the customer service person promised that someone would come within the window. 30 minutes after the 5 hour appt window ended, I called Bray and Scarff and they had already left for the day. I had taken the day off to be there for the repair person.
No apology from the customer service person. I had to call them the next day. They gave me a 3 hr window and promised the guy would be there. I took off of work again and called constantly repeatedly during the window and was promised he would be there. 1 hour after the end of the window he showed up. No apology at all for his no show the day before. Just that "he was busy." He spends 5 minutes looking at my broken W/D and says he needed to order a part that would come in 10 days. 10 days later he comes (late to his window) and says hey, I ordered the wrong part. It will be another 10 days. At that point I tell him I no longer want to do Business with him (or Bray and Scarff) and he tries to make me pay for the incorrect part. And Bray and Scarff "customer service" refused to refund the money I paid him for the first visit he made when he ordered the wrong part. The happy ending was that I called another appliance repair service. A man gave me a 2 hour appt window. Called me 30 minutes before his arrival and looked at my washing machine. He had the part in the truck and fixed it on the spot. Never again Bray and Scarff. |
| OMG, I am so glad to see this post. I would cut off both my arms before I deal with the BS on Lee Highway ever again. |
| 0P, do let the kids run naked in there. Please. And report back… With pictures! One day when our total lemon of a dishwasher dies (which could be any day because it is a POC) I'm going to deliver that thing to them and dump it right in front of the sales person. Don't worry, I'll watch out for your kids! |
| It's hard to pick just one B&S horror story, but my personal fave had to be when our d/w broke WEEKS after it was installed. The B&S repairman took one look at the thing (a Kitchenaid dishwasher that was heavily promoted by the store) and recognized it immediately. Said he had been fixing these things left and right, that they had a known defective part. That was the first repair visit... We've had 3 or 4 in two years for that thing. |
Me too, and never again. I would rather give head to King Kong then deal with those bastards. I can't believe they are still in business. |
| I learned my lesson at Sears. Never, ever get sucked into an extended warranty. You'll be stuck for weeks if the thing ever breaks. Now, I just skip that warranty and if I need a repair, I can call anyone I like to come and fix it right away, instead of being stuck for a month without a washing machine. |
| Add me to the list of unhappy B&S customers. They are particularly bad when it comes to getting them to do repairs. |

BS' high pressure sales tactics turned me off. I went in and looked at about $20,000 worth of kitchen stuff - subzero, wolf, etc.
Immediately told me they could waive the delivery charge if I bought that weekend - and only that weekend.... When I called back a week later with a question or two I got the same pitch "a one time exception"... Gimme a break, someone buys $20,000 worth of appliances you can waive the $99 delivery charge - and if you pretend you can't, there are a dozen other stores waiting to do so. Bought from ABW and used Aj Madison to negotiate prices. They were a little irritated with us for that but got what we asked for. |

I posted about this before, and I'll keep doing it every time this comes up, because B&S are the worst.
Redid our kitchen and bought all of our appliances from the Bethesda store. We had a good experience with the sales guy, but that was the last good thing that happened. We played *Can You Please Send A Competent Person Out?* for almost two years with them. Our GE Cafe freezer would get too warm and they sent a parade of repairmen out. It was never the same guy and the diagnoses we got were amazingly diverse. My favorite was claiming that the design was bad and the overheating was because they'd constructed the cabinet an 1/8" too close to the fridge. Or maybe it was the time the said we needed a part that would take a month to come in. After not hearing from them for six weeks, I called in to find that they had no record of that visit or the part being ordered. This shit went on so long that our warranty ran out. We called Bettar repair, they sent a guy out, and he figured out the problem in 20 minutes. Our microwave is a piece of shit too. The touch screen stopped responding one time when the fridge acted up. The B&S repair guy came out, he had no idea he was supposed to look at the microwave and then had no idea what was wrong with it. It started responding again before he was supposed to come back. After the warranty was up, it did it again. It took me 10 minutes on Youtube to figure out what the problem was, that it was a big Known Issue with GE's Cafe microwaves, and the fix was relatively simple. Meanwhile, our washer and dryer that we bought from Home Depot has needed service a few times. Every time the repairs have been easy to schedule and the repairmen they send are professionals who know what the hell they are doing. TL;DR DO NOT SHOP AT BRAY & SCHARFF UNLESS YOU'RE A MASOCHIST. |
| Adding a new vent: back in July I called for an icemaker repair. The guy came out, opened my freezer door and said "you need a new icemaker". Did no other diagnostic investigation. I challenged him on how he determined it so quickly and he pointed again and said "I know". Took 5 months to get the part. The same guy called me 7 hours late for the install appointment and when I asked why he took so long to call to say he was running late, he SCREAMED at me "I AM VERY BUSY!". Needless to say, I demanded a different repair person. Apparently they have one one guy who services all of DC so you will have to deal with this jerk unless you specifically say you refuse to have him. New guy came out, installed the ice maker... no ice. I called Service Repair, explained the whole situation and the woman on the phone said to me "are you done now?". So rude. New guy came out today - ice maker is not the issue. The water line valve needs to be replaced. First guy never looked at it. I am furious. We have purchased so many things from B&S over the years but NEVER AGAIN. |
