Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
Jane is one of my favorite names. I love normal names like Jane, John, Sarah, Michael, Beth, ..... I'll admit that I do judge parents by the names they give their kids. When I hear Aiden, Cousar, Carter, Brittany, Madison, etc..... I immediately assume the parent is a douche. I've been proven wrong many times. But it's still my initial reaction. |
| I recently heard an NPR reporter talking about the challenges of feeding her toddler, named Fountain. How can you not judge someone who names their child Fountain? |
|
I totally judge. I don't mind Prometheus, Jane, Octavia, etc. What irks me are made up names and names with oddball spellings.
FWIW, my parents gave me a "unique" spelling of a traditional name and I hate it. No one could pronounce or spell my name correctly growing up and I've since started just going by my middle name. I don't care about strollers. |
Is Fountain one? Or Hayleigh? |
| what do you think about the name Annabelle? Stupid or ok? |
Yes, exactly. My son's name is Paul and he's the only one in the school. Had he been a girl, his name would have been Jane. |
|
I really don't give other people's name more than a moment's thought unless it is truly crazy (like Matthew Matthews or "Cloud" or something).
And those of you who judge people by their strollers...well, that says a helluva lot more about you than them...and it isn't good. |
| I know a kid (from what would be considered an upper middle class family) who named their kid "President". I mean, come on people!!! |
Why would anyone think it is stupid? It is an actual name that has been circulating for a very long time. It's nice, and anyone who gives you any crap about it is a loser. |
| I knew a kid named Random. He was a really cool kid. I'm sure all of the judgmental folks will enjoy that one. I picked traditional but uncommon names for my kids but I am not against unusual or even "weird" names. It's hard on the playground but they always grow up to be interesting people. I don't understand why so many people seem to want their kids to be "normal" which really just means the same as everyone else. |

Names -- I only judge to the extent that it makes me love the name we picked even more. I probably judge names that are too trendy or too cutesy a little bit.
Strollers -- I love strollers like some people love cars, so I take note of what stroller you are pushing so I can check it out. But I don't judge. |
Hah! My Jane is 5 and is also the only Jane in her entire school (in a sea of Sophias, Isabelles, Olivias, Avas, Madisons, Natalies, Mayas, etc, etc.) |

I have to admit there are times when I do judge the names parents choose for their kids. I don't like it when children are named after cities. London, Paris, Madison, Brooklyn, are places not names for babies. I think creative spelling should be banned. Unique names aren't always so Unique either. I have come across several children named Unique though only one Unique Ariel.
Skylitte can't be a common name in another culture, can it? I have only met the one. Children named after food and drink make me scoff a bit too. Candy, Brandy...... You get the idea. Oh, and traditional names, don't even get me started on those. Thomas, Elizabeth, Alexander......... All should be banned. Hippie names like Moon Unit, Summer, Rain, and Meadow should all be forgotten. It's been 41 years since Manson killed the 60's. Names after weather should also be reconsidered. I can't imagine going through life with a name life Frost or Hail. Maybe the worst of them all are those who give last name first names. Who really wants to go through life with a name like Montgomery, Quinn, Sawyer, Harrison, Fonda, or McCall? No one I know. |
| I love lastname firstnames! I have a friend with a lastname-firstname AND a firstname-lastname and his name is great! |
|
PP has to be joking since there are no names left.
Annabelle is a pretty traditional name no? Didn't Edgar Allen Poe have an Annabelle poem or story? |
