Do you judge parents by their child's name?

Anonymous
I admit that I do (as well as what type of strollers they push around) and if I know/see the spelling of the name I judge even more.

Sometimes it's a "nice" judgement (oh, I really like the name), but most of the time it's "what weirdo names their kid Prometheus or Aideyn?".

I don't even know why. I know each to his own especially when it comes to name choice. Anybody else?

There was a very long posting (7 pages worth?) on judging parents by what type/brand of stroller they had.

I don't really care what names people give their children, but others will make assumptions. If a list of names is posted for a class, and you see: Jaden Jaci ________, Crystal Chantelle _______, Mary Elizabeth _________, Catherine Kennedy ______, and Shaundra LaToya _____, perceptions will be made.

No, I don't, you're just a b****.

I try not to, especially since I don't know why they chose to name their child that, or even if their child is adopted and that is their given name. Occasionally I hear a name like "Dax" and raise an eyebrow though.

What "perceptions" would that be? That your child went to a fairly diverse school where not everyone was named Jackson/Emma/Grace/Carter? The horror!

I think we all make judgements on these kinds of things even if we don't want to admit it.

I'll admit, I judge the Braydon/Caydon/Jaydon crowd. IMO, those are made up, trendy names and they bug me.

(Of course, on the flip side, I've got a little boy with a very common name around here, so I'm sure that people think I'm boring and not creative).

Yeah, kind of the same here. The made up names drive me nuts. But I don't know why. I also get mildly offended if somebody criticizes my kid's name. So basically, I suck!

Hey, I'm the poster. I think all the same is boring, but then I didn't send my kids to a non-diverse, elitist private school. Nonetheless, people form all kinds of opinions based on a person's name, college degree, alma mater, hometown, etc. Just the way it goes.

Perhaps, but then most of us, put that in check and realize such things don't actually mean a person is X way or Y way--a little self-evaluation. Not post a message that encourages people to share how judgmental they are b/c that's "just how it goes". See OP, all I needed was your original post, not your name or stroller type to know that you suck!

I'm not the OP, but I think you're getting upset over the realities of life. People make comments on this board all the time that I view as very judgmental and highly critical. Often those comments are allowed a "pass," as long as the majority of posters holds the same opinion. In fact, this entire forum is filled with judgmental comments.

I have more important things in life to worry about.
