Do you judge parents by their child's name?

20:27, how on earth do you grocery shop with a double stroller? My son was 23 months old when I had my second child. Never got a double stroller, as the 23 month old could either walk or go in a stroller while the infant was in a moby/bjorn. I considered the double stroller for about 15 seconds, but with an age spread like that I didn't want to deal with the hassle and the inconvenience. I also couldn't imagine trying to grocery shop with one - where would you put the groceries?

Yes. I am sure people also judge me as I gave my son a hippy name that is also a lastname firstname. Whatever.

I DARE THEM TO. THEY WILL MEET MY WRATH!

Whatever names you give your children, remember that they'll be carrying that name forever. Example--Apple.

I seriously would love to meet a kid named Prometheus. I bet his parents would be awesome.

My baby's name is Leah - what do you have to say about me?

I think Leah is a very pretty name.

Leah is very pretty name, agreed.

Damn. Fuck. Fuck and more fuck. I have a very common first name and mildly common last name. My latest mistaken identity headache consists of trying to remove my name from a lawsuit brought by Capital One Bank. I was served with court papers the day I went on maternity leave.

Sometimes I wish I my common-ass name wasn't so damn common.

OT from this thread, but maybe you ought to just cut the woman with the massive double stroller a break. Trust me, she doesn't want to be pushing anything that large down the narrow grocery aisle. But she has two kids who are stroller age, and she has to grocery shop. And chances are she hates having a massive stroller and having to drag two little ones shopping more than you hate seeing her. Such is life with babies/toddlers. And a little empathy from you would go a long way.

Signed,
mom of a 2 year old and 2 month old with a double stroller who is looking forward to the day when the older one can walk for an extended period of time without running away.
and who is cranky because she's had a very long day with both of them while her husband is away on business travel.

Totally agree. I have a double stroller (wide..side by side) because I have <<<gasp!>>> TWINS! Those who hate moms with double strollers should refrain from judging. Unless you've had twins (or children who are close in age), you have no idea how difficult it is to get around while dealing with the evil eyes you get at the store. Have some compassion people....oh wait, this is DCUM. Never mind.

Oh for Pete's sake, NO child wants to be plain Jane (or whatever plain name there is)

Actually, my daughter's name is Jane and she's the only one in her entire school. And we like it that way!

Jane is a gorgeous name. So is Leah. But I'll admit that I judge parents who give their kids weird names. I don't mean names that I don't like (for instance, if someone names their son Ezra, I don't think badly of the parents even though I absolutely LOATHE that name). But you name your child Brayden, or something totally made-up, or a proper noun (Apple, Pilot, or some crap like that), and yes, I judge. And the "creative" spellings, ugh. If you want to name your child Aidan, great. If you want to name him Ayde'an, not fine.

Of course.

I love the name Jane (and the nickname Janie) and almost gave my DD that name. I do judge a tiny bit when it comes to the trendy names - they just get on my nerves. That said, I've been proven wrong more than once, where several kids with trendy names have actually had really down-to-earth parents.

I used to do hiring for my company and I will say that the name on the resume did sometimes enhance our perceptions about the candidate. Obviously not make-or-break by any means but a professional sounding name just gave it a tiny edge, all other factors being equal. Something to think about...that the name isn't just relevant for the years when they're small children.

Some names are not made up-- they are common names in other countries!
