Murder at Lululemon in Bethesda

I'm not trying to be snarky... but I think it is interesting to note how we respond to tragedy (be it a murder or an earthquake/tsunami) and attempt to determine what inform those reactions.

Very rational question, and I'm almost surprised it hadn't been asked earlier. I've lived here long enough to remember the murders at the starbucks on Wisconsin avenue back in 1996 (or 1997? I dont' remember), and a lot of people were horrified and people asked the same thing, why is this any different from any other murder in the district. I can't answer for others, but for me, it's hitting me hard because it was a random act and I am assuming that these women were tortured overnight and just the thought of that is horrifying to me and makes it impossible for me to stop thinking about it. It's the whole concept of them being locked in with these men, and not knowing their fate. Any murder is horrible, of course, but there's the situation surrounding this case that make me shake. And then of course there's the fact that I live nearby, in Silver Spring, and am in downtown bethesda regularly and go into that store almost every time I'm there. Not that I buy much there, but it's just a place that I like to walk around in, so I can't help but wonder which of the saleswomen whom I've seen there were the victims. I didn't know any of them, but it still feels much less far removed for me from other crimes you read about.

Honestly I think the woman in the hospital was involved with the two suspects. The story does not add up...the fact that one forgot something and the other had to home back and the two men were there does not make sense. They have not given any details on the survivor and I think it is because she is a suspect. I also think that if the suspects murdered one employee why not the other... Does nit make sense. Who knows to throw off the cops the one females boyfriend could have beat her up and we do not know what the sexual assault entails bit when ppl are desperate they do anything. Its terrible but true! in any case a terrible situation

Or maybe they haven't given details about the survivor because she is a victim in an active sexual assault / homicide case where the perpetrators are still at large?? My god.

Whoa nellie! You are getting way ahead of yourself. There are a number of different scenarios that could have happened and we only know minimal details. To start blaming one of the suspects is really horrible. For all you know they both were brutally beaten but one was beaten a little more. I hate when people go off on all these crazy theories when they don't even know the half of the details. You should only do this if you are 100% educated in all the details.

Seriously. This speculation is gross, to put it mildly. Besides, isn't it the default for rape victims to not have their names publicized?

I can only hope that people are coming up with all these speculative theories to put their own minds at ease, by turning this into a non-random crime. It's the randomness that's always so unsettling. If this was an inside job gone horribly wrong, maybe it helps people feel safer at night. Still, please stop people!!!!!

I think it is normal for people to speculate. It's the process of life. Get over it because the world has good and bad people.

Not everyone is so blase about other people's suffering. Get over it.

It isn't that. It's the fact that the story doesn't add up. I am horrified by these crimes just as I am by any other violent crimes in our city but this doesn't make sense if you have ever been to Bethesda on a Friday night. When I say it could have been an inside job, I am not blaming the victims. I don't believe in blaming rape and murder victims under any circumstances. But one of them might have known the murderers and let them into the store. I'm sure that she did not know what was going to happen but this explanation is the only one I can think of for two masked men getting into a store on that street without being seen by anyone. This doesn't make me feel the slightest bit safer because the two men are out there and they will probably never be caught. It also doesn't make me feel any less sympathy for the victims.

Ok NO it was cited it was a "sexual assault" not rape so do not discuss false information. Sexual assaults result in many things.

Wow, you are really all fucked up.
