I cannot stop thinking about this horrific crime, after reading about it last night. I go in that store at least once a month and to think of those poor women going through this unspeakably awful night, it just makes me want to weep. And then to read that they had actually left the store but went back, omg....it's just too awful. Can you imagine?
As i watch the coverage of the devastation in Japan, I can't help thinking about the fact that I feel as devastated about what happened to these two innocent women as I do about the millions suffering in Japan. It's almost like the devastation in Japan is so vast that I can't even wrap my brain around that level of suffering, but here in our little community we have a story of two victims of a random, horrifically violent act, and I just cannot get it out of my mind. Just rambling, feel free to ignore me. |
Just hearing the details makes me wonder if they will ever catch the murderers. Will we ever know what happened to these women? Sounds like the surviving woman will live. Breathtakingly sad. |
I keep thinking about it, too. I hope the killers are brought to justice. |
I can't get either out of my mind, but I know what you mean. |
I think it was an inside job. I can't imagine how two men in masks and gloves could get past the crowds in downtown Bethesda on a Friday night and walk into a closed store without being seen. |
They probably pulled their masks and goves out of their pocket at the last second. |
Lululemon in tysons is still closed today...
|
You mean the woman who forgot something inside was in cahoots with the murderers? Maybe something went wrong and they killed her? |
I don't want to speculate too much because it's just so awful but yes, it's possible that one of the women knew the men and things went terribly wrong. |
Did they have plans to call 911? |
It's possible but unlikely because they would have risked being seen by the two women in the store. Also, if they were looking for a random place to rob, why would they go to a busy street on a weekend and wait around with masks in their pockets for someone to come and open a store that is already closed? They probably were not planning to break the windows on a store with an alarm so what were they doing there prepared for a crime like this? |
Okay people, come on. A woman has been murdered and another one was sexually assaulted and badly hurt. It is unbeievable that folks are on here saying the survivor had something to do with it. Imagine you'd been raped and almost murdered, badly injured, and recovering in the hospital only to find out that some evil bored housewives were sitting on DCUM speculating you were in cahoots.
Y'all need to go to confession. BTW, there is an apple store right next door. Many are wondering if this was a planned ipad 2 theft turned opportunistic crime. Whatever happened, none of us REALLY know. There are dozens of possibilities. There is no sense speculating, and it is really mean and rotten to suggest the woman who survived had something to do with it. Ugh. You people are terrible. |
Likewise, can't get this horrific crime out of my mind. So senseless and heartbreaking. I sort of feel unsafe all the time now - I mean the victims were going about their day just as we all do.... So disturbing !!! |
I agree. And not that I want to drag this out any further, but as I was reading the posts above speculating that this was an inside job, my first thought was that if that was indeed true, then I would assume it was the poor woman who was murdered who was the one in on it, since she would know the perpetrators and could identify them. But as you noted and I want to reiterate very strongly, it's pretty tasteless of any of us to speculate and cast negative aspersions on either of these poor victims. The whole thing is so horrible, I can't even imagine what these poor women went through. And whomever posted above about the thin line between opportunistic crime and rape, I agree, it's truly sickening and horrifying to think of how often women are raped in concordance with a robbery. ![]() |
Obviously, this is tragic. But I wonder why we don't see the same level of grief, outrage, shock, etc. for the 100+ murders committed in the District each year. I'm not trying to be snarky... but I think it is interesting to note how we respond to tragedy (be it a murder or an earthquake/tsunami) and attempt to determine what inform those reactions. |
