Young female metro riders be careful...

I hate to see it perpetuated.

OP again. No doubt. But again, that was not the point or the intent of my post and I hope it didn't come across that way (and well, I didn't think to send it to some public relations analysis before posting it - really).

There are plenty of White, Asian, and Hispanic creeps and assholes out there. Race/ethnicity is only a factor when describing a (singular) person. I never intended to imply that only black guys (or all black guys) are the problem. Race is as much as a factor as what he was wearing, his height, etc.

I hate mercenary people who do this shit. Sorry, OP.

I protested non-verbally by trying to move away from him, trying to block my body with my arm, and finally elbowing his arm away (even that barely worked), but had a hell of a time finding my voice to tell him to knock it off. I think I shutdown in hopes that if I ignored it it'd go away. Stupid me. I really hope it doesn't happen again, and if it does I won't be such a coward about it.

Since we are sharing stories...I was on the metro platform, and there was only me and some guy, he exposed himself and started masturbating. So, I went up the long escalator to tell the station manager. He walked down with me and asked me if the guy was black or white so he could look around for him. But the guy had gotten on another train by that time. I didn't think to report it officially or call 911 though, but I certainly remember it. A different time, a guy followed me out of the station and started talking to me and following me home. Thankfully it was during the day and a store was open, so I just walked in there and he went away.

You should file a complaint with Metro - both so that they have some record of your attack, and so that they are aware of how poorly trained their staff is. You might also consider posting your experience to the Dr. Gridlock blog/live chat on the Wash Post website - he often highlights problems with metro and often gets good helpful attention from Metro. I hope you're OK and I hope you get the attentive response you deserve from authorities.

I just filed a complaint through metro's website - don't know what good it will do especially since I don't have the train car number or the exact time of the incident (I think I was on the train at about 7:45, and it started happening around 8 or 8:10). I also don't have the name of the metro employee. I honestly was a bit shocked with how the metro employee responded - he seemed to take it seriously and was nice about it, then proceeded to say over and over "now I'm not blaming you... you're the victim" but then proceeded to tell me that I should have gotten up (nevermind that I couldn't get up), spoke up loudly, pressed the emergency button, etc. He really didn't let me get a word in edgewise.

Honestly (hindsight again) I wish I had retorted with "how would you feel if some creepy old man sat next to you on the metro, prohibited you from moving, and started elbowing your penis?"

Gah. Ah well. I do wish I had done more but I have always had such bad luck with reporting problems and issues and conflict where it is always dismissed or made into my fault. I think much like a former pp mentioned you can feel like you're independent and can take care of yourself but then can become shellshocked and speechless pretty easily.

Of course, now I get to worry about facing this again since I ride the metro that late at least twice a week. My sister halfway joked about stocking up on pepper spray - but I'm pretty sure that's illegal in DC/MD isn't it?

Hair spray in the eye hurts too

You said you could not get a good look at the man sitting practically on top of you but you knew enough to say he was part African American. WHATEVER!!!!! Go back to Kansas!!

Fuck. You. You are disgusting.

OP, I wouldn't worry about not making it known on the train. All the frustration and skeeved-out feelings you're having now will come out if something like this happens again.

Let's just hope the creepy guy's next target has been a victim before. She'll open up a can of whoop-ass and react like the "Oh, fucking yes!" lady from YouTube.

You can see her in action here:

You called a woman who was sexually assaulted "weak." You are a vile excuse for a human being.

Anonymous wrote:Well, it becomes a race issue when you first say someone is black and then you admit you don't know if he is. Before, you said, "You don't know what its like to be attacked." Well, maybe you don't know what it is like to be black and everyone looks at you like a criminal. A better description would have been one describing his complexion - maybe medium/dark complected.

This is my point exactly!! Giving false descriptions can lead to false accusations and unnecessary profiling. That has effects you probably would never understand or care to for that matter. But if you constantly had to see people you know go through life scared of the police or being falsely accused of a crime because of remarks made from people like this you maybe could get a clue.

Move on. Really, move the fuck on. This is not about you or any other victims. This thread is about OP. Start your own thread so even more people can pile on how much you suck and how wrong you are. Seriously, several people have chimed in here - you are in the wrong. Move on.

Honestly I have been in quite a few situations that required me to "make a scene” But as a person who has lived in this city my entire life and have lived in areas that were kind of rough I am no stranger to this kind of thing and almost expect it to some degree. I am just concerned that African American males tend to be a logical scapegoat in crime situations and sometimes when people go there they do not see the implications. I think Hispanic males get it too. Just know that there is a history behind this sort of thing and it touches a nerve for many people. I apologize if my words hurt you.

PP, I share your concerns but you have a way of introducing them into a thread which makes you a lightning rod and everyone starts focusing on you instead of the issue. This post is better than your earlier posts (if you are the person who posted "typical"). I know you want people to reflect on how they see race but you've got to stop coming in like a sledge hammer if you want them to listen.

For the umpteenth time... I said that I was pretty sure he was at least part African American because based on what I saw he looked at least part African American. Not because black guys are the scapegoat or because I think that black guys are the only culprit and always the culprit (I don't think that at all, actually). I posted identifying factors including his clothing and approximate age. Race/ethnicity is just another identifying factor. I was not making it into a race issue - the troll was. I would have stated if I suspected that he was most likely White, Asian, or Hispanic as well.

Point is - if anybody else has a run in with the creep know that he's done it before and probably does it pretty often.

Former law enforcement here. So sorry that happened to you. Disgraceful by Metro police, but not surprising. If this or something like it happens to any readers on the metro, dial 911, don't rely on Metro folks. If you are downtown, you may luck out and get some Secret Service uniformed, who are top-notch.

OP I am sorry this happened to you. I do not take the metro very often and I am trying to figure out how someone feels your breasts sitting next to you on the train. Do you mean with their hands or like brushing against them with their arm. I believe you and think it is totally fucked up but I don't get how it is subtle?
