Young female metro riders be careful...

The most practical way of getting someone's attention is using "whistle". I know it sounds off..but it proves(per crime prevention report and lots of law enforcement officers..) very effectively to get away with those "unnecessary situation".

Most of victims of this kind of situation, they tend to "froze" and cannot do much as they would wish. This is natural reaction from normal people, they just need to have some type of "mind training" that what they need to do in such cases.

I bought five whistles for my wife and daughter and gave to my parents for emergency, (trust me they laughed at me a lot!! when i gave to them.. they now appreciated how it works perfect and they carry everyday. (it is called "Tri Power Seftey Whistle" from REI, local outdoor store and it is super loud and it can be heard from very long distance.

whenever you go outside, or you feel unsafe or walk late in the areas, grab this in your hand in pocket, then use it when you need it. It draws quick attention from anyone nearby and it can be heard from 1-2 miles away (only in mountains..or forest..) also, that the same time, the scums are afraid of "attention" by others. I gave this little thing to my family and close friends of mine for avoiding the unsafe situation with piece of mind. Please remember, prevention is key and just blow it when you feel it to get away and out of the situation as quick as possible. Then call or ask help to others and law enforcement officers later. Hope this helps.

It was mainly about theft though - they are seeing a huge upsurge in crime because of theft of iPads, iPods, iPhones, etc. which were really not around as much a few years ago and now every metro rider seems to have one.

OP here. Sorry I didn't take the time to run a full DNA and ethnicity analysis and was only basing my description on when I saw him briefly when he got on the train and through glimpses as I was trying to gather identifying information. Yes I think he may have been part African American - but I could be wrong and he could have been Dominican, Pakistani, etc. If I can look at someone closely I can usually have a pretty good indication of what their ethnicity is but I was not able to do that and I was a little too shellshocked at the time.

What's "typical"? Should I have turned while he was attempting to rub my boobs and pin me down and ask him "what race are you? I want to provide an accurate PC description when I warn others about you?"

Please keep the trolling off the thread.

I am not a troll, you are for that shady remark. You are typical and weak! A train full of people and you did not open your mouth. Grow a pair! You said you could not get a good look at the man sitting practically on top of you but you knew enough to say he was part African American. WHATEVER!!!!! Go back to Kansas!!

Not the OP, but you suck. Big time. I am astonished at the lack of compassion and sheer stupidity you have displayed in such few words.

No she sucks! It seems to me she very easily threw a description out there about this man being African American even though she did not see him. That is very typical! And when questioned she goes on a tyrant with me about it. She seems to have no problem with quick responses why couldn't she muster up something on a train that was FULL of people? That is a legitimate question. Perhaps I was rough on her but I do not appreciate the lame description she herself admits is not at all accurate. if you do not know then this is when you keep your mouth shut!!!

OP again. Either you're a troll, or you are majorly overreacting and have never been in the type of situation I described. I got a brief look at his face, could see him through the reflection through the window, and I could see his hands. That is what I based my description off of. I never said I did not see him at all.

Should I have spoken up and said something? Yes. I should have swallowed back the lump in my throat, gotten over the mental block of making a scene, and said something. I've been kicking myself all.night.long. In fact, I didn't sleep until 3 am because I was guilt tripping myself over not doing more and not pushing the metro employee to make a report. But as many others have said - often in that type of situation even the most independent types tend to clam up and get shell shocked and they don't want to create a scene.

It's still bothering me, and if you'd wish to troll take it elsewhere. This is NOT a race issue - this is a "creepo on the metro" issue which come in all shapes sizes and colors. You're the one turning it into a race issue, not me.

I know you will not believe me but I do feel bad for you. I understand all people are different and people react to things differently. Honestly I have been in quite a few situations that required me to "make a sceneā€ But as a person who has lived in this city my entire life and have lived in areas that were kind of rough I am no stranger to this kind of thing and almost expect it to some degree. I am just concerned that African American males tend to be a logical scapegoat in crime situations and sometimes when people go there they do not see the implications. I think Hispanic males get it too. Just know that there is a history behind this sort of thing and it touches a nerve for many people. I apologize if my words hurt you.

Well, it becomes a race issue when you first say someone is black and then you admit you don't know if he is. Before, you said, "You don't know what its like to be attacked." Well, maybe you don't know what it is like to be black and everyone looks at you like a criminal. A better description would have been one describing his complexion - maybe medium/dark complected.

OP here. Maybe you're right. But again, I am pretty sure he was African American and mentioning it is just like mentioning his baseball cap, facial hair, jeans, and a jacket. Maybe i don't see mentioning race as a huge non-PC issue and you do. Just because I mentioned he was wearing jeans does that mean I'm stereotyping all jean wearing men as creeps? No. Just another factor in his appearance. If he had appeared to be white I would have said so. I don't see that as an issue.

I know you don't but just know there is a sensitivity issue for many African Americans who feel often times "when in doubt say he is black" I am sure if he was white you would have said that too, but there seems to be such a stereotype when it comes to crime in this area. I hate to see it perpetuated.

This has happened to me before. I simply shout: "HEY!" and then "STOP THAT." I do not care if I make a scene. I simply do not. They are COUNTING on you to be meek. He sized you up and thought you'd never protest. Next time, make him think twice.

I hate mercenary people who do this shit. Sorry, OP.
