Skyview may be OK but it’s not going to have the same broad appeal as Oakton, even if some South Lakes and Westfield families prefer it and Oak Hill can accept it.

I don't especially want my child at a high FARMS school, but I think it is a bonus to have a nice mix of kids Double bonus for being a nearby school that is a real community.

No, I meant what I said. "Broad appeal" means appeal to a wider range of families based on the range of academic and extra-curricular offerings, which a smaller and less established school will be less likely to offer, especially in its initial years.

That's not to say Skyview won't also appeal to some people, but it's unlikely it will appeal to as many people as would continue to prefer their kids attend Oakton.

Correct - trying to keep up with the latest scenarios, so people can see their impact on enrollments, along with the impact of the other boundary adjustments made earlier this year.

Not sure if the bigger scandal is someone editing the consultant scenarios after they were published or Seema Dixit self-dealing her neighborhood right on out of a rezone and lowering the HS farms rate to boot.

It's so opaque that no one really knows Seema Dixit's involvement, but the appearance of impropriety is so blatant that they really ought to revert to the prior scenarios.

But, hey, this is a School Board that turned a blind eye to allegations that Kyle McDaniel embezzled from his business partners, and is willing to waste tens of millions of taxpayer dollars on Dunn Loring ES because Karl Frisch, who raises a ton of money for local Democratic office-seekers from his LBGTQ allies in other states, wants it.

Expecting them to care about how they are perceived is probably asking too much at this point. The only recourse is to vote them out next year.

i don’t think that’s right. crossfield is east of fox mill. if you moved crossfield to skyview they would go past fox mill but they won’t going to SLHS. if you look at a map there is zero reason they should be at oakton. they didn’t want skyview so looks like they’ll get south lakes

Much of Crossfield is in Franklin Farms - beyond Fox Mill on Reston Parkway.

+1 it’s going to be like the people who fought to stay at Hayfield or Lee when South County was opening. It’s short sighted.

If the boundary recommendations this year have proven anything, it’s that affluent communities can only trade up along the high school pecking order. They’d sooner move portions of Marshall Road and Mosaic Elementary School to Falls Church HS than remove Crossfield from Oakton.

Westfield, which has the largest HS building capacity in the county, will now be in the bottom 10 of HS’s population wise. Meanwhile at least 5 schools in the county at over or near capacity…. What the hell are we doing? Why bother to start another HS when you are wasting one. FCPS can’t get out of their own way.

The school is east of Fox Mill. The neighborhoods, with one exception, are west. To go down Reston Parkway towards South Lakes they would pass Fox Mill on the west, but would not go through Fox Mill neighborhoods.
Some of Crossfield neighborhoods are quite close to South Lakes.

According to the latest CIP, Westfield has the third largest HS design and program capacity in the county, behind both Lake Braddock and West Potomac.

However, they are proposing to create a ton of excess capacity at Westfield. It's also a school that's historically had a high enrollment and strong sports teams, and that kind of goes out the window if the enrollment is closer to 2100.

South Lakes will be in a similar boat, although there were periods in the past where its enrollment was quite low.

Some of Bull Run is equidistant to Centreville and Westfield. They also share boundaries with Westfield elementary schools. And, Centreville is not a large building.
The one neighborhood they picked for Westfield is closer to Centreville than most of Bull Run. It makes no sense at all.

Idiot who clearly doesn't live here. Most people who go to Crossfield have to pass Fox Mill Estates to get to the school. Many Crossfield families live closer to Skyview than Many Fox Mill families (and the other way around, too). We live closer to Fox Mill ES, Oak Hill ES, some of us even live closer to Navy ES, than we do to Crossfield ES. The boundaries for our school suck.

Honestly, maybe having a smaller school for a low SES population is a good thing?
