Oak Hill doesn’t want to go to Skyview. Let’s send Crossfield to Skyview and leave Oak Hill alone. |
That works, too. But Crossfield parents are well represented and well prepared and ask many questions and push their agenda at every meeting. |
Reducing the enrollment at Chantilly was the #1 justification for buying KAA, so there’s that. If they aren’t sending Oak Hill to Skyview they should just flip the property and sell it to a data center. |
Those Oak Hill protests are ridiculous. Some might get on the Carson AAP bus. Chantilly needs to be reduced. Perhaps residences that don't a bus to Franklin but get a bus to Oak Hill should be flipped to Lees Corner. |
No more than the Crossfield protests. |
No, it doesn't work. Someone has to move out of Chantilly. |
The only protests I have heard about Oak Hill is the objection to splitting off a few of the Franklin Farm kids. I think Oak Hill has pretty much expected to go to Skyview. Sure, they have an attachment to Chantilly, but they are certainly not to be compared to RIO. They can read the tea leaves and know that Skyview will be fine. |
I live in Polo Fields and looking at a map, I can see that our neighborhood does make the northern boundaries for Skyview nice and neat. We're also pretty equidistant from either school. I feel like both scenarios make sense. I'm not super jazzed about doing one year at Hughes and then moving to Carson, but my kid is used to switching schools for other reasons and it won't be the end of the world. He'll adapt. I've also done the Hughes/SLHS experience with my older one and know that things will be fine there. I like the joint campus there, and since my DS went to Terraset, it is a natural flow for us. But at the same time, the chance to go to Skyview is exciting as well and since we do a lot of things. Either one is much better than the previous options which had our neighborhood possibly going to Dogwood in Reston, down to Carson in Herndon, and then back over to South Lakes for HS in Reston. That one was stupid and provided no continuity for the kids. |
*we do a lot of things in Herndon. |

All of Oak Hill should be at Skyview.
But the complaints from pretty much everyone about who is moving and the like pretty much makes the case for a magnate (sp) school. The school was purchased to reduce overcrowding but the ES at the schools with the overcrowding don’t want to move, they want other people to move. They are fine with it being crowded if it means they don’t move. |
And it will be especially fine with them there. |
If it became a MAGNET school, it would attract as many students from Westfield as will be zoned there anyway, and pull hundreds of kids from South Lakes and Herndon HS. It will not solve capacity issues at Chantilly or Oakton because those kids would stay put. In other words, pointless. Give it up. |
A magnet will serve no purpose other than to have achieving students leave schools they do not like. It will not resolve any of the overcrowding. Skyview will: help overcrowding at Chantilly keep Westfield kids in a much closer school appears that it will allow the Fox Mill families an escape from IB --which they never wanted Gee. Doesn't it seem like if the School Board is making boundary decisions based on screaming parents, that they would listen to those who do not want IB? This is not exclusive to South Lakes. This has gone on for far too long: 1. Overwhelmingly, the community prefers AP to IB 2. IB is more expensive. It used to be clear, but they are now hiding the specifics. As I recall, the total was close to twice as much with all the etra requirements. It is time to address this. Where is the SB member who will step forward with this? |
Just move every Oak Hill kid to Carson/Skyview. Freeze the walkers shouldn't apply for Oak Hill kids. It's not like Carson/Skyview are very far from them. |
