I don't have my computer so I'd have to go in anyway, so I'll be taking leave.

Why did you wait several days?

I dont understand — people have saved hours by not commuting, can use their lunch break to work on digging out.

I would think most people would have prioritized their cars so they could leave, yet you are just now clearing your windshield??

Exactly. I cleared mine off Sunday.

That's a you decision and you get to deal with the implications.

Its below 20 until Sunday.

Further evidence you should have "chipped" your car out a few days ago. Be a grown up.

Do you actually expect to be off work until Sunday?

Not OP, but leave and go where? The side roads are still a mess where I am.

Not the pp, but I read "leave" as in be able to leave if need to, not necessarily go out shopping or something. Be able to leave in case of a medical emergency or work or something. Side roads might not be perfect but you can use them.

Omg people. It took us two days to get to it because 1) I’ve been working , 2) conditions on Sunday were horrible, and we just did a first pass to remove snow in the morning and then got buried in 6 inches of ice, 3) we started yesterday on the cars, but see 1) I’ve been working, and only had time for the driveway which was also buried in ice.

I finished car #2 today. It all sucked.

We had quite a bit of sun, so if you cleared your car a bit, the sun did the rest. I spent max 2 hours total over the past 2 days clearing 2 cars . Same for shoveling. And I am a not-young, not super strong woman.

Are you in DC? I just ran my cars for like 30 min, then all the snow slid off in one chunk. This was Monday morning. I did 3 cars during lunch hours (i worked later to make up time).

This thread is about Feds. You should be working about 8 hours, without a commute you should make good progress?

Snow plows are still getting stuck. I’m staying home no matter OPM’s decision.

I'm essential and drove in both yesterday and today. It's still a mess out there. Some roads are pretty clear, but many smaller/side roads are not, or are down to one lane (so traffic going both directions have to fight to go). Many intersections are dangerous with high piles of snow, and some don't even have turn lanes anymore. It would be better for everyone anyone who can stay at home does.

I don’t get why people don’t understand this. People that can work from home right now should be allowed to. It just makes more sense.

No, it’s 25 out right now where I am. After dark. Inside the beltway.

I get that it won’t be above freezing till like Tuesday, but we aren’t off work till it goes above freezing.

You should have done it all Sunday.

You weren't working Sunday. And where exactly do you live that you got 6 inches of ice?

No I’m not in DC and my arms beg to differ about the ease. I ran my car for an hour and it was 4 inches of solid ice plastered to to the windshield. Not sure why but it was a complete nightmare. My location got a TON of ice on Sunday and it took us two days to dig out. We are able bodied. Others are not and that was the point of my post.
