You can swipe by walking. But most can not walk to work. Last checked the bridges getting into DC from VA or MD were impassable by foot.

+1. Also, school will almost certainly be closed, so liberal leave to care for your kids is appropriate.

(Not mentioning liberal telework because I don't want to hear a bunch of randos shout about how it's "iLEgaL" to telework with a 12 year old in the house. So let's just say liberal leave.)

Isn't every day liberal leave if you have a worthwhile reason?

Technically, no. In practice, yes unless your boss is really difficult.

Some color on this - we made this decision because of the state of secondary roads. While the state DOTs in the region have done a great job on primary roadways, the arteries are still not done and the on/off ramps to freeways are likely to freeze overnight. We expect the secondary roads to be in better shape by EOD tomorrow so anticipate being fully operational in-office on Wednesday. We'll of course re-visit as we get more information tomorrow.

I am hoping for a delay but we will see.

I've already heard telework for my office for tomorrow. I'm not sure if that's an indicator for everyone else, or if it's just due to an issue affecting my office...which I'm not going to name.

Beautiful- hope our agency has some sense too.

I walked to the grocery store today, the neighborhood is encased in ice.

Name the agency. Or a lie.

No one on my street has gone anywhere. Our driveways are three inches of solid ice and the snowplow has only hit the street once.

Sure, people in DC can walk places, but where most of us feds can afford to live? It's a sheet of ice.

That’s nonsensical. I could drive to the grocery store 5 minutes away, if I needed to, in part because there are so few cars on the neighborhood roads.
That is much different than my 45 mile commute.
Nobody is going to the movies or the mall.

Come shovel my driveway, PP, so I can get out to the store, starbucks, movies, and mall. I'd love to do that.

My bet is delayed opening for OPM tomorrow and liberal telework.

Dh is teleworking in his home office, our street is still a sheet of ice.

My agency has limited telework per year (like 5 days) -- maximum telework is not counted against that. What about when its this type of "liberal telework" -- would I need to count against my limited pool?

I will ask HR, but honestly I'm sure they are swamped that I may not hear back in time and honestly the documentation on this is thin on the ground.

It will open.
