Excepted - No Desire to Work

You hate us because we are upset about receiving constant vitriol from our own president/agency leaders and now told we are lazy we now also have to keep showing up for work not knowing when our next paycheck will come?

And don’t tell me this BS happens in the private sector. I have worked in the private sector and am married to someone/have plenty of friends in the private sector.

The people who keep you safe and keep this country functioning are burnt out and becoming increasingly checked out of their jobs because we are so stressed. Think of that the next time you board a plane or eat lunch meat.

I suspect most of us are very supportive and wish this wasn’t happening to you. I understand that you’re feeling burnt out, stressed, and disrespected. I’m sorry. You deserve much better.

The unfortunate truth is this site is brutal and you’re not going to get a lot of support here. It’s an anonymous forum and people like to take their anger and frustration out on others. I’m sorry it’s headed your direction today.

Maybe you’re just over your job. Have you thought about leaving for something that might hold your interest more?

Our next paycheck will only be 7/10s pay. Why is empathy so hard for many in this board?

Calling it an empathy problem assumes I would get it if it happened to me. But I would not (did not) feel that way when it happened to me. This is a dumb whine. Everyone will get paid in the end and they know it.

You clearly haven't been paying attention. No one knows anything for sure with Trump in charge.

I don't know why so many people on DCUM cannot wrap their brains around the fact that not all federal employees are high paid employees who have enough money to max out not only their TSP but a 529 plan every two-weeks.

TSA workers make, what, $43,000 a year in a stressful job where they have to deal with unpleasant members of the public every day. They are federal workers who are working without pay, and once they miss a paycheck many will not be able afford to keep coming to work and will have to find other jobs - because things like gas and public transit cost money. So there are likely to be major travel disruptions if this keeps going. ATCs also are already under strain and a long shutdown could be a breaking point. If people can't muster empathy for federal workers--which clearly is asking too much these days--maybe they can selfishly want the shutdown to end so TSA workers keep working and vacation plans aren't disrupted.

Because many have been without work and without pay for months. Out here trying to get interviews, and getting desperate.

The fed workers aren’t being paid either? But I’m sorry PP. I hope you find something soon. Not sure what your field is but I’m seeing a bit more job postings lately.

Since we do time cards - I had to sign a time card Friday that was coded furloughed - without pay - although I was in the office working.

Um that's not correct. They're doing it wrong.

Different agency but we also directed to put furloughed despite us working as excepted. Definitely worrying and I don’t remember doing that before

Yeah. That's just...odd. If you're excepted you code exactly like you normally would.

NP. We don’t normally have to use a furlough system so we can’t just code normally.

That said, I am excepted and entering hours into the furlough system as excepted other than last Thursday when I was on leave. That I entered as furlough.

Dont make this harder. Stop whining. Everyone else rolls their eyes at your assumption that you deserve to sit at home. Real Americans work for money. Feds need to understand and accept the unique bits of their employment like potential shut downs and back pay, or find another jobm

No one is forcing you. You can quit.

Feds are so whiny and lazy! It's embarrassing.

To clarify, you are a DoW employee, not a DoD employee. Get your facts straight.

Incorrect on both counts. About three quarters of government employees are showing up for work every day with a promise to get paid eventually, just not now and no clear picture of when. And the other quarter are not on vacation as they have to be ready to report tomorrow morning, every day until this thing ends, and the White House is claiming they won’t get their back pay - it would be a mandatory pay cut.

Its legal name is still DoD. The administration can refer to it by its nickname, DoW.

Thank you. I’m sorry there are some nasty people on here.

Feds are “Real Americans”. Feds work for money. Right now Feds are working without getting paid, and those who aren’t working are being told they shouldn’t be paid but aren’t able to work other jobs. Feds are doing exactly what you claim Real Americans should do. Why are you giving them a hard time?

All this talk makes me think it is worth filing for unemployment and dealing with paying it back if/when we get paid.

Depends on which state you live in if you can actually do this.
