Excepted - No Desire to Work

This is why many hate fed workers....and why they are losing their jobs.

Incorrect on both counts. About three quarters of government employees are showing up for work every day with a promise to get paid eventually, just not now and no clear picture of when. And the other quarter are not on vacation as they have to be ready to report tomorrow morning, every day until this thing ends, and the White House is claiming they won’t get their back pay - it would be a mandatory pay cut.

DP. I'm furloughed but every other fed I know is working, including people who have been furloughed in past shutdowns. My old office of 100 people would normally have been furloughed but is working right now.

Maybe you’re just over your job. Have you thought about leaving for something that might hold your interest more?

Since we do time cards - I had to sign a time card Friday that was coded furloughed - without pay - although I was in the office working.

That… seems like a dumb thing to be worked up about. So I assume that’s not really what’s bothering you.

DP. Don't pretend that you wouldn't be bothered if your employer, whoever that is, failed to make payroll on time. My next check is already missing pay for dates I already worked last weem, so yes, I am salty too.

Exactly! I was in the military for many years and worked during shut downs - it is what I had signed up for. It hits differently as a civilian.
But, I just read the admin may not pay furloughed employees, so I will not linger tomorrow morning!

I and my team are excepted. I have been told to essentially approve all requests for leave, flexible work schedules, and telework. Leave goes down as a temporary furlough, so does not count against annual leave and should be paid. Basically, as soon as the guidance came out, most of my excepted employees put in open ended leave requests.

I should think it's obvious, since this is not the first shutdown, that many DCUMers have been in this situation.

Our next paycheck will only be 7/10s pay. Why is empathy so hard for many in this board?

Calling it an empathy problem assumes I would get it if it happened to me. But I would not (did not) feel that way when it happened to me. This is a dumb whine. Everyone will get paid in the end and they know it.

This is only important if you are a GS 12 and above, not living on the fringes of the economy, pay check to pay check. I don't know why so many people on DCUM cannot wrap their brains around the fact that not all federal employees are high paid employees who have enough money to max out not only their TSP but a 529 plan every two-weeks.

Reneging and litigation should be worrying. Who knows how long people will wait after shutdown is over to get their back pay?

All this talk makes me think it is worth filing for unemployment and dealing with paying it back if/when we get paid.

I’m sorry, op. Republicans suck. I’m glad Dems didn’t cave on selling out health care for millions of Americans.

I’d stop work immediately if I had to sign a time card that said that. That’s ridiculous

+1 Don't sign another card like that if you are an excepted worker. OMB is trying to nix back pay for the furlough. If you were working, you have a better change of getting paid.

Not my contractor DH if this goes on much longer and in the interim I don’t have a paycheck coming in either. Bills still have to get paid. Meanwhile the rich and lazy members of Congress are still getting taxpayer money.

I was excepted during the last shutdown and it was hard watching my entire neighborhood taking walks and doing yard work while I was coming and going from my deferred pay job.

Ignore the miserable trolls OP. This administration has done a really great job turning the populace against federal workers for sport. And this country is full of negative keyboard warriors and people with way too much time on their hands.

It’s crazy to me that so many people are willing to wish hateful things on people who literally keep airplanes in the sky, inspect our food and drugs, make sure SS checks go out, etc. You know damn well if these things stopped the masses would revolt. I truly think they wouldn’t care if we were forced into literal slave labor so long as their lives aren’t inconvenienced in the slightest.

Like oh no you can’t visit a museum on your vacation and are upset about that. Try showing up to your job after 9 months of being treated like garbage, threatened with firing, and not knowing when you’ll get your next paycheck.

So sorry your vaycay is ruined. 🙄
