They are federal workers who are working without pay, and once they miss a paycheck many will not be able afford to keep coming to work and will have to find other jobs - because things like gas and public transit cost money. So there are likely to be major travel disruptions if this keeps going. ATCs also are already under strain and a long shutdown could be a breaking point. If people can't muster empathy for federal workers--which clearly is asking too much these days--maybe they can selfishly want the shutdown to end so TSA workers keep working and vacation plans aren't disrupted.[/quote]
