Where to apply: middle of the class but from T20 private hs. 1560 sat. Very good EC in school and outside.

Top 20 private nationally.

Well in that case get off of this DMV-centered board and talk to the damned school about this. If it’s so fancy it can tell you a lot more than we can.

Weirdo.

This. If you're coming from STA or Sidwell there is zero chance of getting into Brown unhooked from the middle of the class. That's all we can tell you. If you're at some fancy NYC private then why the heck are you asking for info from strangers on a DC board? We got 'nothin. Ask your college guidance or better yet, follow the advice that they already gave you.

I mean, seriously. What are these people paying for? Why they come to this board astounds me.

A lot of schools do not rank now, particularly private schools. They are automatically ranked top 10% according to Brown.

you're both wrong

Percent in top tenth of high school graduating class
89%
Percent in top quarter of high school graduating class
98%
Percent in top half of high school graduating class
100% Percent in bottom half of high school graduating class
0% Top half +
bottom half = 100%
Percent in bottom quarter of high school graduating class
0%
Percent of total first-time, first-year (freshmen) students who
submitted high school class rank:
30.6%

70% of kids didnt submit rank and it's not included in these figures.

LOL

I'd think for this student a massive state flagship might be interesting.

Depending on the awards, maybe Brown or a SLAC.

Brown is not going to be excited about an applicant who is middle of the class in terms of GPA. SATs are good, but tons of other kids have that.

Yes, but if applicant is a boy and has big / important awards, Brown might work.

Yes Brown strongly favors males. They have a dearth of male applicants compared to other ivy and they want the 50-50 balance

At our non-DMV private (strong academic class) NYU is an easy shoe-in for middle of the class IF they apply ED and/or they are open to start their freshman year abroad for one semester (London, China, Middle East).

FYI, there are no T20 private HS in this area. This person is probably in nyc or has a kid in boarding schools. Which is why everyone posting here thinks Brown is off the table. It's not

There is a reason that their cc is telling them EC Uchicago and it is indeed because Brown is not realistic.

there's no doubt that uchicago would be a lay up. but if the kid doesnt want to go there, and the counselor isn't hearing that, then it's bad advising. not every kid wants to go to "the best possible school with my profile" or the "safest possible with my profile"

More typically, it’s the parent not liking the schools suggested by the cc and coming here hoping to hear better ranked schools. My guess Chicago was the highest ranked of the schools suggested by cc and op wants “better.” Op , of course, can come back and provide more context.

OP what kind of context? doesnt want "grinder" culture of Chicago (and Swat). open to many others. would rather be full pay at a t50 or a place that gives merit below.

Did op ever come back? So weird.

For the dual academic interests of philosophy and computer science, look into Hamilton for its programs and facilities.

St Andrews takes lots of private kids even without APs.

If OP's kid has AP scores LSE or Oxbridge (though Oxbridge apps / subject tests are due soon)
