As if elections will happen.

They happened and continue happening. No one pays attention except GOP. Why do you think they’re redrawing maps? Dems know. I’m kinda hooked on special elections right now.

See Iowa special election: Democrat Catelin Drey won a special election in August 2025 for Iowa State Senate District 1, breaking the Republican party's supermajority in the chamber. The seat had been held by Republicans for 13 years.

Government adjacent job. I am hearing that a shutdown is almost certain. Ugh.

Yeah, at first I didn't think there would be one but now it's looking more and more likely. DH is a fed and I only work part-time. There goes our income.

With a stopgap bill passing the House, but competing bills in the Senate that can't get 60 votes, who will be blamed for a shutdown?

Polls say Trump will be blamed.

For anyone out there in the world who potentially might be secretly rooting for a short shutdown to attend to their upper middle class or wealthy person indulgences, please realize that many feds live paycheck to paycheck. No one should ever want a shutdown.

It’s really not up to us, so it doesn’t matter what we want. I do wish Dems would stand up and get some concessions from the GOP.

If Trump and the republicans want to shut down the government, what can I do? If it’s forced upon me I will just make the best of it.

I feel you (I’m a fed contractor who won’t get paid if I don’t work, even if the rest of the federal government eventually gets paid). That said, I also don’t want the Dems to capitulate. I want sone concessions. I want to see Congress starting to work together. I’m tired of the one-man show. Congress came together for the border bill, but it was blown up by Trumps, who wasn;t even in office. It’s f’ing ridiculous and an abuse of power. I want the balance of power back.

Thank you. We are going to wider a little to get the country back. Short term pain for longer term gain.

Sorry, “suffer a little…”

Schumer and Jeffries want to meet with Trump. Ridiculous! Trump is a big fat liar. He lied to members of his own party to achieve what he wanted. Schumer and Jeffries thinks Trump will negotiate and keep his word? How can you be that old and so f*ing naive?!

Nancy Pelosi wrung so many concessions out of Trump back in the 2016-2020 period.

These boys should probably send a woman to do this job.

The House Bill isn't actually a "clean bill" or continuing resolution because it doesn't continue ACA and Medicare programs intact. That's why it died in the Senate. Republicans' fault.

Yes, I wouldn’t be worried if it were Pelosi. Schumer and Jeffries are doormats.
