+1. The Hill is a lovely little “town” within DC. Not only do my kids walk to school, but I walk or bike to work, for grocery shopping, for doctors appointments, etc.

+1, especially zoned for Ludlow, Maury, or Brent

I would not worry about country clubs with that budget. It won’t be an issue. Not snarky, just realistic.

OP, your first concern really has to be commute. If one of you is WOH, you need to be aware of commuting times. Everything else comes after that.

Bullshit. You mean to be snarky.

No, it’s being nice to them. Idk if they’re coming from Kansas City or some BFE place but 1.5M housing budget is not the tax bracket to get into the Bethesda country clubs… they won’t interact with those people

Shouldn’t you disclose to the poster about Eastern?

This person will dislike Takoma Park. Definitely does not match their vibes.

Yes. Way too upbeat Cali vibe.

Thanks for my monthly reminder on how provincial this site can be - hilarious that you think a housing budget signifies someones overall NW / standing in society

Hi OP: We love Murch in Chevy Chase DC. Great group of parents... collaborative and kind. We've found a lovely community and we hope that you do too! Welcome to the neighborhood!

You need to actually read the post. OP’s focus is on public elementary, of which there are several great schools on the Hill.

Looking for a neighborhood with:

- an excellent public elementary school
- many young families
- a community with a dedicated social commitee / active civic association
- a neighborhood in which most families send their children to public school, at least for elementary

We would be grateful for any advice, good and bad.

Does a house like this work? It’s a 15 minute drive to DC and it’s on a quiet residential neighborhood road (with no through traffic). It’s in country club hills, if you want to join the country club that could provide some community involvement.

ew arlington! why would you want that?

Quite possibly the dumbest thing I've seen on here - and that takes a lot

As someone who lives in one of the suggested neighborhoods (Westbrook), I would prefer that someone who uses "nabes" move somewhere else.

You know what I mean. In some places like Avenel, you “buy” into the country club/golf lifestyle. This is more common in other suburbs in the Interior of the country, where the wealth is concentrated among the doctor/lawyer/car dealership class (ie not old money) For a country club like the ones in Bethesda, the initiation fee is $100k at least plus the waitlist. And if you got that kinda money, why would you be in a Sears-Robuck fixerupper that would sell for 800k in Bethesda

1.5M gets you a nice house in Bethesda but it depends of course on income or existing wealth to go beyond it. The house is just the start

I still want to know wtf OP means by a community association?
