+1. The Hill is a lovely little “town” within DC. Not only do my kids walk to school, but I walk or bike to work, for grocery shopping, for doctors appointments, etc.

Sorry for starting a second post. This one didn’t post immediately, so I thought I had inadvertently missed hitting submit.

Maybe Falls church city public schools would be good for you. Are you ok with a new construction TH or a SFH house built in 1960s.

This, especially if your kids will like being on the swim team.

There are a lot of private school kids in Somerset.

There are also a lot of public school kids in Somerset.

But majority or close to it are in public, and young/new families mostly seem to be planning on it. A lot of families went private in the pandemic and didn't want to put kids through yet another transition.

I refuse to answer because OP used the word "nabes."

What are your requirements? Bedrooms, bathrooms? Condo ok? Any commute?

Somerset ES is a gem! Great energy, dedicated teachers, and strong ties with the community.

I think you should look at the Woodside/North Woodside/Montgomery Hills/Linden neighborhoods in Silver Spring. All are wonderful neighborhoods for families that do a lot of social activities. Woodlin Elementary school is the neighborhood school and also has a great community.

Of those DC neighborhoods, maybe half of the kids go to public school.

In AU Park for K-8, it’s well more than half. Can’t speak for the other neighborhoods. HS sees more private.

Country Club Hills is not country club heavy, despite the name. Your budget probably precludes it anyway.

So avoid Chevy Chase, MD and all of NWDC.
