My son went to OBX with a coed group of friends. The dads of two of the girls chaperoned and everyone had a blast. Each dad was a really good cook, so they had some at home dinners that were fabulous.

Now, back in the 80s when I went to beach week, there were zero parent chaperones. So, I guess this is an improvement.

I'm going down tomorrow as a chaperone. Wish me luck. All the private school houses I know (a half dozen?) have parent chaperones staying on site.

Nonfamily groups are disallowed by most leases, parents or not and can be evicted.

This happened to my nephew.. entire group sent home, I believe, before the first night! He's a great kid, but the whole thing was not a great idea.

My son and his friends aren’t planners. My plan for next year is to just go with his flow, which I imagine will mean he and his pals start making plans very late. I’m thinking maybe they wont even be able to pull it together then. Any risks to that approach??

Small child also died in an elevator in a home in OBX the year we were last there - roughly four years ago... All with a house full of adults.
