Texas is an extremely popular international application per Reddit.

I’m usually progressive, but we need a massive restriction on applications from east Asia.

The universities will accept who they want. Why are you scared of your kids competing against others from around the world?

No, this year is actually the peak. It starts declining again after this.

The system isn't broken.
Parents insisting on their kids being a priority is the problem.

Of all the things that are wrong with college admissions, this hardly registers.

Of course it is frustrating for the kids who applied, but this is locally fixable.

Agree. This tells me that the UT Admissions Office has issues, but it's not indicative of a systemwide breakdown.

I thought that universities in places like Texas were going to DIE?!!!!!! That no female EVER would apply to somewhere in that regressive hellhole?

Different poster. Because there is a ceiling on how great kids can be and there are far more kids who meet it than there are spots at universities. The international kids aren't bringing academic/extracurricular qualifications to the table that can't be matched by a very long line of exceptional American kids.

Only in the mind of 1 or 2 DCUM posters.

Your entitlement is broken, on so many levels.

There is a difference between total number of unique students applying to college
# of applications each student submits
# of applications sent to a specific school

Jeez

?? If Harvard got a 40k increase to 100k apps, they’d also have admissions issues. UT had has a consistent steady rise from 40-70k apps over a long term period. They had 3x the increase in apps as years prior. I get your emotional you didn’t get your admission decision, but this is stupid.

Why do you think the number of applicants increases so much?

Austin is a great place to live, Texas is booming, and the football team is good again

Anonymous wrote:Texas received 92K apps and they weren't able to even look at most of them, despite having 3 months of time. But they didn't tell the applicants until decision date (today) and now they are reviewing EA and RD applications together in one giant pool except for the tiny handful that they admitted today.
Upshot: there was no advantage of getting the application in by Oct 15th. In fact, there is likely a giant advantage to applying RD and having the extra 6 weeks to write essays.
Most insane: they didn't even admit most of the in-state EA auto-admits (top 6% in state get auto-admitted) but they did admit some RD decisions today.
Total cluster-f$%ck.

No you stink as a parent

Texas is unsafe you fool

Gid forbid you have a daughter you are even more disgusting

And, and this is a big, And..the amount of outright cheating and lying from East Asian applicants is horrific. Look at pictures of Chinese and Indian kids sitting for tests, where parents are literally on ladders outside the windows handing them answers. Also, there is a huge network of groups that steal the entrance exams for top universities and then sell the questions and answers online.

Guess what...they do that with the SAT as well and there is a massive network of consultants that are absolutely upfront that they will create an application for kids. Forge a transcript, create the ECs, write the essays...soup-to-nuts.

what are you talking about? (in bold)?

btw, on reddit, the international applicants talk a LOT about faking ECs, forcing transcripts, and fake LOR. And there are college consultants who help. it's a crazy cottage industry I had no idea about.
I've spent more time there this cycle (as this board has been kind of dead and taken over by trolls compared to by last go around in the college process) and it's been eye-opening.

My one input is to say that I completely get op being upset. It's not normal to be told you find out on X day and then have it be up in the air. It's like any of us at work missing a huge deadline, but for thousands of people! Nothing really excuses that.
