Is Trump an atheist?

Anonymous
As an atheist, I was very sad when I considered it, and thought that Trump was an atheist, too.

Of course, there is no reason that atheists would all be good -- they only have one thing in common for sure -- they don't believe in God.

Most atheists I've met, are good people, though, as are most of the religious people I know.

I does bother me that religious people sometimes feel that it's their particular religion that makes them good -- and in some cases, better than people of other religions, and certainly better than atheists.

I also hate to see Trump, or anyone, take advantage of religious people. And that's what he's doing when he pretends to be religious.

Liar, cheater, racist, misogynist, there is nothing Christian about him. He holds that Bible, but thinks he is God but he is not. I don’t think he’s atheist.

Do you think he's any religion? Or do you just think that he thinks he IS god?

What do you think?

I would assume he is as he has cynically exploited religion for his own political purposes and seems completely fearless about the bad kharma he has generated along the way.

Well, by that description, he sounds like a Christian

Does not sound like anyone in my church.

Also all the Christians I know would be worried about consequences of their actions, especially ones that have hurt so many people.

He does not attend church, does not know scriptures, has been married several times, boasted about sexually assaulting women in a video, cheated many small businesses out of payment, made incestuous remarks about his beautiful daughter, evaded paying taxes over decades, praised murderous dictators while disrespecting leaders of allied democratic nations. He really does not sound like any Christians I know.

Now explain the millions of Christians who enthusiastically support him.

There was a rainbow alliance of Christians, Muslims, Jews, Latinos, men and unfortunately women.

I believe that massive disinformation campaigns (sponsored largely by Putin who wants to divide and conquer both the US and EU) via exploiting fear of illegal immigration and misrepresenting economic realities are the main reasons that the amoral Narcissist was elected.

The disinformation is coming from the pulpit too

The head minister at my church said he was noting for Harris because she represents Christian values better but encouraged everyone to respect each others’ choices.

Good to see she is an outlier.

Not an outlier in many mainstream churches

Yes it is an outlier in many mainstream churches. Check the statistics.

Definitely not an outlier in my mainstream church - Republican members feel on the outs. There is a lot mourning in my large church knowing how much suffering will lie ahead for so many people.

But you are right because it is a mixed bag and varies by race. White evangelicals continue to support Trump. It boggles my mind.

White Protestants and Catholics support Trump, but voters in other U.S. religious groups prefer Harris

Heading into the fall campaign for president, U.S. religious groups that traditionally have leaned Republican are backing former President Donald Trump by wide margins, while religious groups that traditionally have favored Democratic candidates are mostly supporting Vice President Kamala Harris.

You mean you belong to a black church?

We are not predominantly black but relatively diverse … a lot of emphasis on education and compassion … it makes me very sad to see how well Trump did among so many Christians …

I have always supported separation of church and state but now I see it as essential and urgent.

Anyway that is beside’s OP’s intent for this thread . To me Trump is a particularly cynical atheist who knows how to exploit religion for unholy purposes. The atheists and agnostics whom I know in real life are far more ethical and honest so this is not meant as an insult. I just don’t believe that anyone who loves and fears God would behave in the way he does.

Actually, I think you bringing up Trump is besides the intent of your post.

Reality that you don’t wanna understand is that YOUR religion IMPOSES BELIEFS ON OTHERS.

Also, you’re extremely naïve and it’s almost hard to have a conversation with you with your nativity.

FYI -- I disagree with you and agree with that person you're responding to.

Have you always been delusional or is this something new?

DP to immediate PP: Please say something germane to the conversation.

OK -- so he's not Christian and he's not atheist. What religion do you think he is?

The Church of Trump. And it appears there are 70 million + members in this country. Sadly.

Sounds like it's a new Christian denomination.

I think this is all accurate except the 70 million+ part. Obviously there are some voters who were either somewhat ignorant or held their noses, and I don't think they get to be counted as cultists.

But the kind of people who go to psuedo-religious rallies for the guy absolutely are worshipping him. Which is terrifying.

I think he’s probably agnostic. Don’t know if there’s a God or not, but the key is that he really doesn’t care either way. He likely doesn’t give Faith a second thought except for how he can benefit from faith or the lack thereof.

Although I wonder if all the adoration and messaging in some extreme Christian circles that he is sent by God has him believing in his own messianic status.

FYI - Atheists don't know whether or not there is a God -- but they don't believe in one. that is, they are Not Theists, i.e., A-theist. Like people who are asymptomatic do not have symptoms.

Most atheists, if they think about it, are agnostic atheists: they don't know and they don't believe.

"Agnostic" is perceived as a softer stance on religion, suggesting that the person emphasizes the not knowing over not believing. Personally, I think "agnostic" is ofter used by people who don't know that atheist means not believing in God.

Of course no one knows -- just like no one really knows if there are fairies - like god, they are invisible. But adults generally don't believe in them.

I think Trump is an atheist. The bad kind.

What is a bad atheist? -- same as a bad Christian or a person of any another religion.

It's someone who doesn't care about other people at all.
