And this whole thread shows why, among the professionally secure set of women, women are increasingly deciding to become single parents by choice. They are competent, resourceful woman, generally quite well educated, who have no need for men in this regard. And for whom, increasingly, men are (of course with substantial exceptions) on balance an emotional and financial resource drain, and just don't need to deal with this crap. And now with the election in particular I think women are feeling better off using an affirmatively anonymous sperm donor than tying themselves to another identified individual who may assert rights at unexpected times.

To be transparent, I'm a late middle-aged woman who really hasn't experienced the benefit of having a truly substantially involved father. My three female friends who have chosen to be single parents by choice seem to have it much better figured out then the rest of us.

Yup, it's this. Mine cheated while I was pregnant and in the months after having DC with a woman who was older, heavier, uglier, broke, and a drug addict.

It's because the attention and focus were on me and the baby, and he needed someone to make him feel special because I could no longer fawn over him and wasn't impressed with his knowledge of The Godfather when I was trying to learn to breastfeed and care for a baby while juggling work and the house. She thought the sun, moon, and stars of his "knowledge".

Men are just hardwired to seek novelty and variety. Cultural and personal factors will determine how disciplined they are about impulses.

When I was in the military I had buddies who were basically pro sports level attractive, tall, and charismatic. They had the hottest girlfriends and sometimes even a wife, but they would risk it all by hooking up with an ugly chick or a hood rat because they love the thrill of new conquests.

Good example is Arnold, he married a Kennedy and had kids/house/everything but still banged out his latina maid and had a kid with her.

Classic vanity play. I know lots of lifter guys who often dated ugly women because those women would be more "into" them. The guy didn't need a hot woman, he needed a woman to worship him.
