Mine cheated with a woman with a snaggle tooth, a crooked face, parking lot of a forehead, and googly eyes. Was 10 years younger but no amazing body. Just big boned and kinda dumpy. Combination of a mid-life crisis and she chased him like a dog in heat. I sadly agree with the person who noted the Pence Rules.

In my mid 50s and seeing the rash of recent divorces from cheating (some the wives, some the men doing it)- I agree. So many great couples I’ve known well for over 25 years, a few truly unexpected.

is the cheating because of mid-life crisis? where these one night stands or longer term affairs? don't most wives forgive their spouses and say married?

Cheating is about control - denying the spouse information that would cause her to make a decision the Cheater doesn't like. It's also about the cheater controlling his world/self-image - he/she constructs a fantasy with the AP, lying to her and to the spouse to make a audience-facing version of himself that he likes.

Then why get married

Monogamy is a recent invention and, on the whole, probably socially beneficial to keep things together societally. Plus there is a balance to be struck between guaranteed jay jay versus varied jay jay.

Think of it like a power grid trying to integrate renewables. You have as the baseload power like gas, which ensures that the lights stay on and is there when other sources of power fail. Then you have your wind, solar and other renewables that are intermittent and nice to have, but sometimes it's not windy or the sun is not shining and there is not sufficient battery storage to ensure stability of supply. Marriage ensures that the lights stay on, but wouldn't it be nice to have a more sustainable, eco-friendly grid without loss of functionality.

In sum, all men want is more, varied power and to heal the world from environmental degradation. Perhaps a bit morally dubious at the individual level, but the philandering comes a place of love for the earth and all of humanity (literally, I guess, if the man really gets after it).

This is my field and the analogy totally cracks me up. It's such a dour space!

When I was in the military I had buddies who were basically pro sports level attractive, tall, and charismatic. They had the hottest girlfriends and sometimes even a wife, but they would risk it all by hooking up with an ugly chick or a hood rat because they love the thrill of new conquests.

Good example is Arnold, he married a Kennedy and had kids/house/everything but still banged out his latina maid and had a kid with her.

He could have tried for a better looking Latina easily. He definitely took a few steps down.
