Is your neighborhood mixed R and Ds?

I live in a light blue area of a swing state. Our HOA prohibits yard signs (so glad about this), and most people (save a few) are socially quiet about politics including on social media. I don’t know how most casual friends, neighbors or acquaintances are voting. Everyone gets along. Maybe it is my age? (Mid 40s?) but I find that most people find it rude to bring up politics socially. Can’t relate to some of the stories I see on DCUM.

Family and close friends are a mixed bag and we all mostly get along. I hide the more obnoxiously outspoken ones on social media. I sometimes avoid or gray rock the more outspoken ones around election time.

Tbh, no one talks politics and not many advertise their views.

This is a big contrast to when we go into NoVa for activities. Tons of Trump & Walz signs. It seems that Trump houses insist on putting up 5+ signs on their property; big overcompensating vibes. Lots of single Harris signs on lawns.

While we have plenty of Harris/Waltz signs in my neighborhood in just outside the Beltway in VA there are also a handful of very quiet Republicans. You only know them once they trust you to not judge them. Go about a mile away and then you get the 5+ Trump signs, but not in our clusters of neighborhoods. Part of that might be because the quiet Republicans are often also never Trumpers.

+1. Why would my Republican Dad put up a trump sign? He has voted for every Republican presidential candidate for my entire life but he detests Trump and would never vote for him. Trump is not a Republican.

I don't know your dad, obviously, but I would bet my bottom dollar that when he goes into that voting booth, he either votes for Trump or skips over the Presidential race altogether.

That's not what you want to hear, so that's not what he's telling you, however!

You would lose that bet. He's a high-ranking military officer. He doesn't suffer anti-American fools like Trump.

Same here. My conservative military former- republican family members are loyal to America, the constitution and democracy, not some burn-it-all-down carnival barker autocrat wannabe.

This is what they tell you because they know you are unhinged lunatics.

They are definitely voting for Trump.

Sorry, troll. Trump supporters are the unhinged lunatics. My husband is a patriot who served his country and is loyal to the constitution, not some draft-dodging, POW insulting, dumba$ss who salutes a North Korean general and is embarrassed by wounded warriors.

Please. My dad would melt if he even tried to say an untruth. You have no idea what you are talking about. He detests Trump as do many other people serving in the military.

The "uniparty" narrative is dumb and unproductive. Is the system broken? Yes. Is it rigged to keep R and D in power? Yes. But to just lump everything together and call it a "uniparty" is ignorant.

I’ve lived in the same neighborhood in Arlington for 20+ years. Even without political signs in yards, neighbors generally know who is R and who is D, who supports Trump and who doesn’t. It doesn’t seem to be an issue. I know several neighbors who disagree with me politically, including about Trump, and we all get along, go on walks together, stop to talk if you see them in the yard, help each other out in a pinch. Too bad so many others are unable to see the humanity in each other and get so nasty. That serves no purpose.

+1. No dad wants to upset his daughter, especially over something like this. And, you control the grandkids.

Nope. Not all men are trashy.

My house has 5 Ds who are registered to vote and 1 R not registered to vote.

Wrong. Plenty of dads of good character are not lying to their children. If they say they're not voting for Trump, they're not voting for Trump.

And they don't want Trump to screw over their kids and their grandkids.... Speaking of grandkids.

Midwest small town with a couple thousand votes.

Went for Trump by a few votes in 2026, and to Biden in 2020 by a couple hundred votes.

There were a lot more Trunp signs in past elections.

This time there are fewer signs overall, with an edge toward Trump.

Like a PP, those with Trump signs have multiple signs.

We stopped having neighborhood parties after Trump won in 2016.

No Trumpers in our home if we can help it.

^^ first date should be 2016

Instead of guessing by signs, check the 2020 data https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/upshot/2020-election-map.html

My neighborhood went slightly R in 2020. The street signs were like 5-1 R. This year the signs are only 2-1 R, it’s a big difference from last time. Not sure if the actual vote will change but the enthusiasm has.
