Is your neighborhood mixed R and Ds?

Tbh, no one talks politics and not many advertise their views.

This is a big contrast to when we go into NoVa for activities. Tons of Trump & Walz signs. It seems that Trump houses insist on putting up 5+ signs on their property; big overcompensating vibes. Lots of single Harris signs on lawns.

While we have plenty of Harris/Waltz signs in my neighborhood in just outside the Beltway in VA there are also a handful of very quiet Republicans. You only know them once they trust you to not judge them. Go about a mile away and then you get the 5+ Trump signs, but not in our clusters of neighborhoods. Part of that might be because the quiet Republicans are often also never Trumpers.

+1. Why would my Republican Dad put up a trump sign? He has voted for every Republican presidential candidate for my entire life but he detests Trump and would never vote for him. Trump is not a Republican.

We’re in the suburbs. Our HOA rules prohibit campaign signs. I think it’s a good rule given how divided we are.

I don't know your dad, obviously, but I would bet my bottom dollar that when he goes into that voting booth, he either votes for Trump or skips over the Presidential race altogether.

That's not what you want to hear, so that's not what he's telling you, however!

You would lose that bet. He's a high-ranking military officer. He doesn't suffer anti-American fools like Trump.

DH dropped a long time friend for supporting Trump. I thought that was a bit much of him to do that early on (it happened just after the election), but he said that he could not in good conscience continue a relationship where the person supports someone and their policies that seem racist and anti-poor people immigrants.

We are a biracial family full of immigrants (including him), where my side is from a former sh*thole country. My parents are uneducated and at one time, had to go on food stamps. When Trump said, "why do we let in people from sh*thole countries".. he was referring to people like my family. In hindsight, if we had kept that relationship, not sure how I could look those people in the eyes and not wonder if they think my family should not have been allowed here.

I truly, truly do not understand this. Your DH obviously has some internal anger issues that I hope he is able to better manage than he is currently doing.

To answer OP's question, I am a Trump supporter in DC. I would say that our neighborhood is 80% Harris and a silent 20% or so for Trump. We all get along just fine and we rarely talk politics - maybe that is why.

If you don't talk politics, how do you know there's a silent 20% for Trump in DC? I admit I'm very curious to know if more of DC goes for Trump, especially since 1/6 was in our backyard and my friends on the Hill were very scared.

Also, such a ironic response to PP when Trump is seething with anger. Otherwise, why would you have an enemy list (especially one that encompasses more than half the country)?

I don't know. I'm guessing, based on knowledge of how these people live their lives and what they say about other things.

Trump is not the one "seething with anger." Trump is remarkably relaxed and at ease during this election. I'm afraid it's Kamala who is throwing things and screaming at staff behind closed doors.

LOL. I think I've heard everything now.

I live in a deep blue pocket of the DMV. Our street has 12 houses with some residents having lived there for over 50 years. No one has yard signs or political paraphernalia though the neighbor across the street is a Vietnam vet who wears an NRA cap every day. I don’t know anyone’s political leanings and we are friendly with everyone.

Same here. My conservative military former- republican family members are loyal to America, the constitution and democracy, not some burn-it-all-down carnival barker autocrat wannabe.

We are in NOVA in a neighborhood of single family homes prices ranging from $800K to $1.2M. I would say Harris signs outnumber Trump signs about 6 to 1. We are an immigrant family that supports Harris, but do not have a sign in our yard. There is a house with a Trump sign and that pine tree flag that Alito’s wife hung from her house. We say to hi all neighbors. Some try to talk politics, but we do our best to keep it light.

We do socialize with families from our kid’s religious school. We assume they are republican, but try to avoid those conversations as much as possible.

Yes, my neighborhood is mixed. Most people are UMC Harris supporters but there are two groups of Trump supporters: UMC religious people and some blue collar type white people. I’m in a deeply blue state though.

This is what they tell you because they know you are unhinged lunatics.

They are definitely voting for Trump.

If they don’t have a Harris/Walz sign, but they do fly one of those American flags I just assume they’re voting for the fascists.

Yes, I'd say it is 50/50. Used to be more red but has changed over time.

pretty mixed friend group. The only time we've talked politics was shaking our heads and saying this is the best we can do from both sides

PP who mentioned the quiet Republican never-Trumpers. I'm just writing in the people I wish the Republican party (or it's overdue actually conservative replacement) would have nominated, as per usual in these circumstances.

Perhaps un-coincidentally both my parents are retired military.
