Do you ever have your opposite sex teens share a bedroom on vacation?

They annoy each other less now than when they were younger.

What’s the issue exactly?

Teens shouldn't be sharing beds. That's weird.

Why? What’s “weird” about it?

I also occasionally share a bed with a friend on trips. It’s just sleeping.

its strange put the boy on the couch if you have to or an air mattress in the living room.

My brother and I always shared a room on vacation. Sometimes we would have to share a bed if my parents couldn’t get another bedroom. So there would be 2 queen beds. Parents in one, me and my brother in the other. NBD. He’s 6 years older and by the time I was around 12, he was in college and did travel with us.

Our b/g siblings also share a bed sometimes on vacation - we usually just get pillows to put down the center of the bed. They have been doing for years and are used to it.

What is the background of people who have an issue with this?

History of abuse?
Conservative?
Different culture?

But what is the mom afraid of? That they’ll have sex? They can get changed in the bathroom. It’s really not that big of a deal if you really think about it.

They are 13 (girl) and 16 (boy) and “need privacy” apparently. That’s all she said. It’s a bed and an air mattress and was apparently all he could afford.

Sounds fine to me. Change in bathroom. My whole family shares a hotel room sometimes. It just is and I can’t afford two rooms! Mom and daughter in one bed and dad and son in bed other unless son sleeps on extra roll-away. They are just sleeping- presume out and about all day.

Our 2 college students (DS/DD) shared a room and a bed on a recent family vacation. We were staying at a tiny condo.

My kids are still young, and I make them share a bed in a 2 beds hotel room. They are boy(9) and girl (5). This time, we changed by having the boy share a bed with DH, and I sleep with the girl in another bed. The reason is not because they are opposite sex, but it was because my boy took over 80% of bed during sleep, and my girl fell off the bed crying aloud in shocking mode in the dark. DH is a big guy, and my boy cannot kick him off the bed. From now on, DH may share a bed with him during travel. When is the good kid age for us to get something else other than standard size hotel room with 2 beds?

Your friend is looking for something to pick a fight over. My guess is that she never vacations herself.

My young adult b/g kids are just grateful we no longer smoosh the whole family into 1 hotel room as we did when they were little.

Same. Our travel phases (2 kids, b/g) were..

Really little - one room, kids share a bed
Bigger, not old enough to be away in a separate room, but complain about bed sharing - one room, girl with Mom, boy with Dad.
Tweens - kids in an adjoining room where each can have their own bed, which can be hard to find so pretty quickly led to..
Teens - totally separate room with two beds.

My parents always made my family of five squeeze into one hotel room with me sharing a bed with my sister and little brother on a rollaway or sofa bed. Just adding the second room always feels luxurious LOL.
