What Time Does Your Fourth Grader Go To Bed?

Anonymous
My kid is an earlier bedtime- 8:30- but she only has practice 2x a week and it ends at 7. So not that hard to eat dinner and get ready for bed by 8:30.

She doesn’t have activities other nights.

Due to birthday my 4th grader is 9 turning 10. 10pm bedtime.

Finishing dinner at 8:15? This is not an at-home parent vs two working parents issue, it sounds like your family is not good at schedules and time management. How would anyone get a good night's sleep eating dinner so close to bed time?

Depends where you live I guess. Sports didn’t start running later until 5th or so for us, at which point our kids could go to bed at 9 and still get enough sleep.

9-9:30pm, wakes on his own without at alarm at 7-7:30am. Leaves for school at 8:35am.

During the summer swim season, when days are longest, he goes to bed at 8:15-8:30pm because he leaves for practice at 6:45am.

My 9 yo is at practice that doesn’t end until 8:30 twice a week.

Most 4th graders are 9.

And yes my 9 year old goes to get at 8. If it is a practice or game night it might be 8:30. But I don’t change bedtime the other nights because of 1-2 sports nights per week. Our games and practices are 6-7:30. But we live in a county with early ES start times so it’s normal here for kids to go to sleep early.

No. Most THIRD graders are 9. Starting Oct 1 of 3rd grade is when (around here) they all start to turn 9. Only the absolute youngest kids will turn 9 in Sept of 4th grade.

My child was 9 for all of 4th grade. He turned 10 the summer after 4th grade, the same as several of his friends. He is on the younger side, but he went to school on time. We went to 10th BD parties all throughout the 4th grade year.

The first 11yr old birthday party we will attend will be in early October, for a 5th grader.

Same. When we have evening sports, I have dinner ready for the kids to eat at 4-4:30pm when they get home from school and they may eat a snack before bed. If sports are done by 6/6:30, they have a snack at 4pm and dinner afterwards.

My son starts 4th grade on Monday. He is 8. He will trun 9 in two weeks and stay 9 all of 4th grade. He is on the young side, but its not that abnormal.

Pretty early so they can get a good nights sleep and wake up on their own. If we need to wake them up / or they need an alarm then they need to go to bed earlier.

Usually in bed by 8:00, sometimes earlier if its been a long day, sometimes a little later if they are late getting home. Almost always asleep by 8:30 but they need to be up by 6:30

9:00 pm on no sports nights and 10:00 pm on sports nights. He wakes on his own around 8:00 which is fine for our school schedule.

No, most third graders turn 9 at some point in third grade or the following summer. Only kids were redshirted or held back enter 3rd grade as 9 year olds.
