What Time Does Your Fourth Grader Go To Bed?

7 PM is insane. It’s still fully bright outside. My kid hasn’t gone to bed at 7 PM since he was six years old.

We have black out blinds so this isn't an issue thankfully. The kids understand it's brighter in the summer at 7 pm, etc. Whatever time you set with your kids, they're like us ... if you go to bed at the same time every day your body starts to feel sleepy at that time. When our child isn't tired at 7 pm, we'll move it back, but as it stands now our child is asleep within minutes!

You're missing the point, if it's still full daylight they should be able to go outside and play or something if they want to.

Kids under 10 are recommended to have 10 hours of sleep every night, especially on school nights. I am on a schedule, it's easy for me to put to bed at 8:30 -lights out at 9pm and wake up at 7am to get to the bus at 8:15am. My wife on the other hand, would blow the bed time routine daily if it was up to her, the time on the clock and backwards planning does not impact her decision to put our kid to bed. Each of us has a job to do, it takes teamwork to to make the train run on time.

So by this reasoning kids should be awake when it’s light outside? What if you live somewhere with 20 hours of daylight? The kids are only allowed to sleep for 4 hours?

You're insane, My 5 year old niece has a later bedtime than that.

My toddler goes to bed at 7:30 (sleeps until ~8 am and gets a 90 min nap during the day, so getting plenty of sleep). The PP is insane to put an 8 year old to bed at 7.

8:30p, sometimes 9p

I don’t wfh but I’m home by 4p
Dinner is at 5:30/6p; sometimes as late as 7p if after school activities are happening.

He’s usually up by 6 am

No sports but other ECs from 4-5p or 5-6p twice a week

My 9 year old 4th grader goes to bed between 9-9:30 and wakes naturally between 7-7:30.

Kids aren’t programmable robots. They are all different and have different sleep needs.
