What clubs are left in Nova?

It’s a mess. Little instruction and we always lose all the games.
Do the right thing. Remove yourself regarding all decisions for your daughter's lacrosse experience. And that includes whether to post here.

Really dumb response. Why let your daughter have a terrible experience especially when there are better options?

What clubs are left in NOVA? None worth playing for.

Pride is not the best at developing players any more. For younger teams, BLC is doing a much better job. NOVA girls lax clubs are on the decline. Just look at BLC 29 and younger. When that age group gets to MS, CLC will mostly be BLC girls.

BLC is not in NoVa. They are asking about VA teams.

They may be OK with traveling across the bridge to Bethesda. Better to join now instead of getting beat later.

Is BLC really worth sitting in horrendous traffic? 495 around the bridge is the worst these days.

Only worth it if your daughter is a 2029-2033 and you want to win games. All while being surrounding by very talented girls and coaches.

The problem with any MoCo team is that they are just too close in proximity to the top MD teams. Unless a team is super tight (eg, BLC 2027), there is a risk the top players will leave for MD teams and doom the remainder to failure. This is much less likely to happen on a Nova team because the MD club practice locations are just too far for most parents. Look at the 2028s. Pride is #9 and there is not a highly ranked MoCo team to be found because all the best players left for Hero’s etc.

Backstory: the post above is from an ex-BLC dad of a 2028er who left years ago for Hero’s and now has an axe to grind. He left bec 2028 BLC was an off year; it was the right choice for them. What he won’t write: had BLC 2028 been a strong year, like those prior / since, his DD likely would have stayed. The sad part: he has been all over the 2028 pages trashing BLC and projecting the misimpression MoCo lax is dead and Hero’s is now the only real option for talented MoCo players. The fun part: he thinks his posts are attracting strong lower MoCo players to Hero’s but that isn’t happening, as BLC 29 is ranked #19 and BLC 30 is ranked #9. He also doesn’t like BLC’s relationship with Capital, whose recruiting track record is arguably better than Hero’s.

Recognize his posts and the agenda behind them.

Seems like hardly anyone is posting with any info on the young teams. My daughter is a 32 and we live in Fairfax. We tried 3D Metro for a year but they couldn’t field a full team and we had to grab players from 3D Loudon. Also, had to mix ages of grade 4/5 which isn’t optimal. I do like how they don’t play in spring season so the girls can have fun with their rec teams. Also, they don’t go far for tournaments which is also a plus when you have a young kid and aren’t sure lax is definitely their thing yet. We have a lot of friends on Pride and it hasn’t sounded good. They go so far for these tournaments (NC) and they are getting destroyed. They also speak of high coach turnover. Stars seems to be the largest program bc they were able to field 2 2032 teams this year but their “B” team seems like a money grab bc they really aren’t good. They don’t seem to travel as far as Pride which to me is a big plus for elementary age girls. Yellowjackets seems to be doing good things but in Nova they only have a 33 and 31 team established. Trying to build other teams but who knows if they’ll be able to field a full team. It’s frustrating, every team in Nova has major issues, but that still doesn’t make me want to drive over bridge to MD for elementary school age kids.

YJMA already has a 33 and 31 team fully formed? Was under the impression that they were combining age groups because they couldn't find enough players at the younger ages.

I am the PP and my daughter never played for BLC or Hero's. I don't know the ex-BLC dad of a 2028er who left years ago for Hero’s, but I a sure he does not appreciate being part of the fantasyland you have created. It does seem someone has an axe to grind, and it's you.

^+1000. Lots of talent in the area and every club to choose from are bad. Hard to imagine the sport is dying in this area but it is.

This is the most frustrating part. The clubs have a captive audience and they can’t get it together.

Occasionally a club strings together a few good years and that seems to be the kiss of death. Owners get over confident and the club declines.

Everyone involved gets burned. Repeat cycle.

Maybe it’s a DC thing. A lot of people in this area are operating at some level psychopathy.

Clubs need to stick to one team per age group. When you start adding two teams per each group things just don’t go right.

The club business is tough and has gotten worse since Covid. Parent’s behavior and their expectations are a big part of the problem. There are not a lot of new clubs and big corporate / private equity clubs are taking over or buying up the small clubs. Coupled with increasing tournament and travel costs and the business almost isn’t worth doing. Lacrosse is still considered a privileged sport and is not played by the masses. Find a competitive club not run by a large company and you’ll be fine.

We have done pride and stars, and they’re in the same tournaments. Pride originally had one NC tournament but pulled out. Otherwise they’re the same and if anything, stars has a few further ones this summer. I wouldn’t have this be a factor in your decision

I get what you’re saying but if you wait till middle school to drive over the bridge, it’s too late. The NOVA clubs are so dysfunctional at this point, it looks like teams actually regress and get worse.

Do people's daughters like sitting in a car this long, 2-3x per week, all year long? That would drive my kid nuts. She'd rather get that time back to play with friends. If we don't balance scheduled activities with free down time, my kids become miserable (honestly, who wouldn't?) Maybe it’s just us, but this would be a quick way to get my kid to quit a sport.

My kids love their team and teammates. Doesn’t really bother them. I get face time with them and have lots of good discussions. Some kids are great at homework in the car. Different experience across families. Really depends on your situation.
