Thoughts on Syracuse?

Why does everyone always bring up how expensive Syracuse is? It's literally the same price as every other private college and University in the US.

I think they are factoring in the cost of the 2 airplanes, 3 buses, and 1 dogsled you need to get from DMV to Syracuse.

*shaking my head* I went there and do not remember ever whining about the weather. I DO remember that a warm April day was extra exciting ...

Really? My DD goes there and it’s a 5.5 hour drive from DC or 1 hour flight. Sadly, Southwest just stopped servicing Syracuse as that was a good cheap option. Many other schools out there that are much more of a pain to get to.

We flew direct when we visited and found it super easy. Better than the drive to VA Tech!

NO, they are comparing to the great value of instate schools And if not instate for your family than OOS is still cheaper. I can't fathom paying $85-91K for Syracruse! WHY? You have 4,000 options in the USA. WHY would you spend that kind of money to go there?????

The average income in Syracuse is about 25K.

Lol

We toured during admissions day. It was cold, skies were grey and it was raining. Our tour guide was very nice and admitted the weather was a downer. She did point out the main walkway was heated to melt the snow.

Some have no trouble affording it, apparently. Why drive a BMW when a used Honda will do? Why go to Europe when you can vacation at a local lake? Why go to a Michelin star when you can get your feed on at Maccers?

It's a matter of personal preference, and someone's ability to pay. Not really the mystery you make it.

Every person I’ve met who went to Syracuse loved it. It really does seem to be in that sweet spot of the Goldilocks size, good academics, wide mix of kids, and a very strong alumni network. Global warming is helping it not be so cold either!

In this case you’re paying BMW money for a Chevy, paying five star restaurant prices for Applebees, paying Ritz prices for Holiday Inn.
