Calories don’t work with weight loss.

If your nutritionist said that get a good one, that one sucks.

They should look at how you eat, when u eat, what you eat.

Literally my son just switched to No dairy, sour dough bread extra rice and more protein to help him with his health.

Tell me you have no clue what you’re talking about without telling me you have no clue what you’re talking about.

Tell me you don’t understand science without telling me you were an English major.

So your position is that calories have nothing to do with weight loss?

Calories alone don’t make u lose weight.

You can eat too few and not lose weight.

You can have low calories but high sugar and not lose weight.

You can’t just track calories and lose weight.

This is demonstrably false, but sure.

It’s genetics, calories, exercise.

If you have horrible genetics (overweight mother & father & siblings) what should you focus on? Need to lose 30 pounds.

Have been strength training 3x/week for 9+ months. Weights weigh 8-15 pounds.

Have lost 7 pounds…..total.

No cardio?

8-15 pounds is nothing. Even your cardio is not full on cardio.

Do you write down everything you eat?

Your idiotic position is that calorie is the only way to lose weight yet working out is calories out and all of a sudden (in your opinion) calories out don’t matter in weight loss.

Okay Jan.

Right. People who are on hunger strikes, or those who were put in concentration camps, or those who faced severe food shortages never lost weight.

What's true is that most people who say they can't lose weight despite having a calorie deficit, are not actually eating a deficit over the long haul. And they're eating/drinking more than they think they are.

And a boat of people who had tons of protein but no carbs starved to death and some athletes eat a lb of pasta and 2 whole chickens a day and never gain weight.

How many calories did Michael Phelps eat and still lost weight?

A little:
20 min jogging/elliptical before strength.
Walking 10k steps 3x/week

Try a lot. Sweat more. Breathe hard.

I can absolutely maintain my weight through diet only. Exercise is a great addition if you have the willpower not to “eat back” your burned calories, such as to increase your overall caloric deficit for the week. Most people justify the extra snack or glass of wine because they went to the gym that day, negating the extra calorie burn.

Exercise is important for maintaining muscle. Muscle helps to increase metabolism (slightly). However, it’s very easy to eat more calories than you can burn through exercise.

Even if the premise is true, skinny people over ~ 40 with no muscle or fitness don’t look good. Exercise helps with shape, posture, confidence, disposition, glow…

It’s still pretty much “move more, eat less” but the nutritionist is correct that the eat less is more impactful for weight loss.

Exercise is great for health but weight is mostly diet and how OFTEN you eat. For some people, exercise stimulates appetite.

Consider incorporating intermittent fasting, it's got a lot of health benefits and can really help with shifting weight in midlife. Any vids by Dr. Jason Fung or the podcast his team does at The Fasting Method are great.

Also manage sleep and stress, cortisol also drives weight gain.

I agree she is mostly right. Especially if you are a middle aged or older woman and your “exercise” is not extreme..meaning walking a couple miles, using the elliptical, some hand weights. That is not burning very many calories.
