I overstepped and I don’t know how to fix it.

The only person who overstepped is any person who said anything other than "thank you" to OP's generous gift.

I wasn’t aware of this. Now the friend and her family is upset that I purchased one of these items outright. I suggested that I can cancel the order or they can return it when it comes. They all keep insisting that isn’t the point and shouldn’t have tried to upstage them. I’m just confused and I’ve apologized several times to various family members. How can I fix this?

You fix it by dropping the 'friend'.

They are idiots. If they were to go together to buy a gift then it should not have been put on a public registry. The stupidly of your friend is not your problem. Give the gift and to hell with the idiots.

Yep that was me. Same friend too.

NP. OMG. The friend who hinted around that your house would be the ideal place to host her son's birthday party, so she offered it? Please don't tell me you are hosting the shower, too. But that seems unlikely, since she already has a kid so wouldn't need expensive baby things, plus it would be tacky as all get out to have a shower. So maybe it's a different poster with a similar awful friend,

Sorry OP but I think you did overstep in buying the crib. Everyone knows that family buys that stuff.

NP. I have never heard this.

Agree with all the pps that any gift already spoken for should NOT be on the registry. Given OPs update that this is the wine friend, I would back away from this friendship. She and her family sound bat sh!t crazy.

The OP didn't buy the crib. Why are people making this up?

And even if she did...it's not a big deal.

OP, host the shower and then drop the friend.

OP didn't buy the crib. Read the thread. Don't make things up that aren't there. FFS.

What's so special about the crib?

Then why was it on the registry?

Are you the ungracious friend? Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Nobody knows that. You seem oddly invested in this idea that “everyone” must know something that you are just making up.
