It’s pathetic.

NP. How so? Large cities in Asia have been doing it for years.

I see you've never been to Asian, so why are you commenting?

I have been to Asia. So, how is mask wearing pathetic?

It's not. It's a sign of intelligence and empathy towards caring about your community.

OP, at return from each break (summer, Christmas, spring, long weekends, etc.), you see an uptick in Covid on probably all college campuses.

So virtue signaling. Got it.

Doing ineffective things to make weak and stupid people happy is a sign of low intelligence.

This.

Seriously, who cares? It’s going to happen and generally, is really not a big deal for most college students.

LOL

Asia is huge. And no, large cities in my Asian country are not masking. Heck, it was hard to get my South Asian relatives to mask even during 2020/2021. They certainly aren’t masking on a regular basis.

This. Schools like UMD says kids with COVID have to go home so that puts COVID positive people in planes, trains and/or in hotels to spread the virus further.

Fun.

With policies like these no one is going to test.

Rightfully so. I certainly have told my kids just not to test. What is the point?

The UMD policy is simply bad public health policy with no basis in science/statistics. It’s ridiculous.

Same here. She is one of few who tested.

Sent DS with a virtual pharmacy. Told him to hide because by October everyone on the floor with be "borrowing" medicine.

I told my son to give his OTC meds to people on his floor who needed it so he could make friends. We have very different values.

+1 Thankfully my son's 1st year roommate was helpful too! Once I knew he was sick that fall, ran out to scoop up a set of meds and kleenex to replenish/restock the supplies.

And OP: your kid is going to be sick for about half of freshman year. It happens to all freshmen, and even worse so now after being away from germs for three+ years. Your kid will get multiple colds, stomach bugs, and yes, maybe even Covid.

+100 My DS was sick almost all of freshman year with something. He's currently a sophomore and I'm sure the covid isolation during high school didn't help his immune system!

Yes, in my anecdotal evidence, their immune systems are a mess.

When I traveled in the late 90s to Tokyo and Soeul I saw a number of people on the streets wearing masks. Didn't know if it was for illness prevention, smog or something else. As an American, just thought it was unusual to see.

Really bad policy choice. Those applying this year should take note of how schools are handling COVID. It is going to be like this every fall from now on.
Yes, this.
