I can’t believe there are adults who think this video provided “transparency” or that it is helpful to anyone. It is an invasion of the victim’s privacy. The victim is being identified as “Special Ed.” This minor skirmish is only being talked about because there is video. If this was your child getting shoved, would you want the video to be widely circulated?

Comments like this make me feel like I've seen a different video than others. I probably watched that video five times, and I still can't figure out which kid is meant to be the aggressor. It picks up midstream, when apparently some kids saw that there was an altercation underway.

I have no affiliation with either of these kids, but I'm baffled by folks thinking they know what's happening in this video. There's a huge size difference between the two kids, but from the comments I'm supposed to believe that the little kid is the bully. But that's also the kid whose community members picked him up and walked him away, making me think they were watching out for him.

Anyhow, this seems like a pretty minor skirmish that left no one injured. Hopefully both kids got a talking to about impulse control, and hopefully the big kids got a pat on the back for intervening.

I would take the video and go straight to police and press charges.

My child is at Einstein and says in three weeks of school there have been three fights. The MoCo school system has no incentive to be honest about the prevalence of fighting and assault in its schools. Kids need to be able to document and parents should be collecting this data to make it clear to all MoCo taxpayers the level of violence our children are facing.

In an effort to not overcriminalize kids, the School Resource Officers were taken out of schools. They lost of the benefit of relationship building and preventive work, and were left with the responsive, punitive work.

Under the terms of the current MOU, schools don't have to call police for fights unless someone suffers an injury that cannot be treated at the school.

"...In the event of a 911 call regarding a physical attack on another that requires medical attention outside of the school health room..."

There are many fights that no outside entity knows about. MCPS works hard to make sure there is no external accountability.

The letter said she wasn't disappointed in taking the video, but that it was leaked on social media. That is a problem. These are minors. They should feel safe in school.

Remember the girl that was assaulted last year in NJ in a high school. It circulated everywhere and she was so mortified she committed suicide.

So taking a video to show the administration is one thing. Taking it and uploading it so it goes viral is disgusting and it should come with consequences.

MCPD really has no say or can do anything unless someone calls 911 and the administration lets them be involved. Trust me, my daughter was assaulted and it was like pulling teeth for MCPS to do anything. They are just as frustrated as the parents. Administration wants to keep their school's records clean and tries to sweep everything under the carpet like it is no big deal. It's infuriating

ignore the ^PP. They post the same dumb sh1t every time this kind of thing comes up. They want to blame everything on MCPD rather than MCPS, BOE and the county failing our kids.
