Except my child's W-L IB degree helped them get into UVa! That's not blowing

A couple dozen get into UVa from both Yorktown and W-L. You don't need an IB degree to get into UVa.

I don't think W-L blows. I think W-L has gotten really huge and there aren't any additional extracurriculars/events offered when there are more kids. Something to think about at least.

In fact, the admissions data published by Arlington magazine shows that exactly 10% of both W&L and YHS are admitted to UVA for the last five years consistently.

There is another high school in arlington.

?? Yes. In fact there are several other HS. So what?

Whenever anyone asks something about WL, commenters constantly talk about WL and YHS. Same for when someone asks something about YHS. Like those are the only high schools in town. If someone asks about one school, just answer about that school. Stop being dismissive of a third+ of the high school community.

In LA?

No - this is not L.A.
It's NA and SA. Or, as the realtors prefer, NA and A.

Um, I was responding to the statements that W&L was advantageous for admission to UVA. That’s it. My point was that it’s not advantageous to attend W&L over YHS for admission to college. (Well, the one exception may be international placement but that’s so tiny, I’m ignoring it.) Now, depending on your child, there may be very valid reasons why one school is preferable. And thereby your child has more success, thus affecting their outcomes. But, my only point was that colleges do not view them differently.

Turning to your argument that I somehow was “dismissive” of Wakefield which — according to you — should be included in every conversation (weirdly), colleges admission according to Arlington magazine IS significantly worse. (I note that I suspect that for a select number of students it’s very advantageous for gaming college admissions due to the disparities that exist at Wakefield. That being said, I don’t subscribe to the view that it would help enough to place my children in that environment for high school.)

The school is much whiter than the schools where there are drug problems

Troll. There are drug problems at all the schools, Langley, McLean, W&L, and *gasp* even Loudon county.

Where is "Loudon" County?

Way TF out there.

Where, exactly? I've never heard of "Loudon" County. To what are you referring?

Head west. Keep driving until you hit data centers.

(BTW I’m a DP)

There is no "Loudon County" in Virginia. Or the United States, so far as I know. What is this fictitious place.

Scary? Oh geez lady. Hyperbole much?

I acknowledge that there are significant disparities between W&L and YHS as compared to Wakefield — college admission results being a result of many of those. Are you pretending it’s exactly the same as the other two (large) public schools? And, 100%, people everyday choose NOT to send their children to Wakefield. In this county alone, are the N Arlington parents lining up to transfer this kids to Wakefield? Nope.

My intention wasn't to direct my "complaint' specifically to you. Just in general.
"Significantly worse" by what definition? There are far fewer students at Wakefield applying to the schools NA seems to consider the only ones worth attending. Not because students aren't capable. Wakefield still sends students to Ivy League and other highly competitive schools.

Not relevant to OP's question and I apologize for the detour....which I believe any responses that didn't answer the YHS culture question and diverting discussion to other schools also did.

Give it up. People aren't catching your obnoxious snark. We all know you are familiar with Loudoun Co, VA.

Actually, there are quite a few of us N Arlington families zoned for YHS who send our kids to WHS for the immersion program. There are no neighborhood transfers to Wakefield, because there’s no room.

Actually how many is “quite a few” relative to the populations of W&L and YHS? Actually you are in the vast vast tiny minority. Super glad you exist and all but just because you can point to an anecdote does not invalidate the premise that N Arlington families don’t want Wakefield.
