In terms of that culture, probably more than most public high schools in the region, but nothing terribly alarming. ARLnow, the popular hyperlocal news site published a story a few years ago (pre covid era) about students at the school who requested teachers take down certain politically progressive banners and posters. I don’t recall if they prevailed in the effort.

No. The racist families at YHS behaved poorly a few years ago. Not sure if any of them still have kids at the school though.

We opted for W-L.

What was upsetting for me were the minority student accounts of verbal and emotional abuse/harassment at Yorktown (back in fall 2016). I remember one student in particular who was in tears in front of the school board members (during the public comment period).

A couple dozen get into UVa from both Yorktown and W-L. You don't need an IB degree to get into UVa.
