Is this the utter BS? |
You sure? |
Almost all Ivy League schools have an ice hockey team so… |
But it’s true. You simply don’t use phrases like “top Ivy” or “lower Ivy” when you’re in the company of those who already know well where a school like Cornell stands. |
Many decision makers also don't consider Cornell "lower." As PP noted, in the 80s and early 90s, when a lot of higher-level people were going to college, it was better regarded relative to other Ivies and ranked higher. |
FWIW, Brown has been the lowest Ivy

Isn't the Ivy League really Harvard and Yale and everyone else? If we're talking just general prestige anyway. Some people have heard of Princeton. Many of them rate its law school as being great ![]() |
Cornell has a #7 ranked computer science dept and Yale is #20. |
Cornell’s strengths - size and diversity - don’t score as highly with the USNWR methodology. So people who are driven by “lists”, instead of reality, tend to think it’s “lesser”. |
Brown won the division 1 national championship for men’s rugby and women’s sevens rugby this year. This likely would have moved them up in the rankings. |
Save for RBG, Cornell's list of notable alumni is a who's who of no-names. |
Where does that rank even come from? Something semi-useless like USNWR's undergrad department rankings? Yes, everyone knows Yale was late to the CS game but it is now pouring $$ into it and Yale has plenty to invest and improve quickly. I'd go to Yale over Cornell for CS in a heartbeat with the recent investment and overall name recognition. |
Sounds like you went to clown school. |
Weird because it's a fairly large school bas well. |
